Let's say I drink 1 of each blessed potion of boost. Does immediatly drinking a blessed potion of balance exploit those boosts for better stats. Also, does the little story about your character in the beginning bear any relevance to said character!

Potions of balance cannot be exploited - they don't raise stats over 25 IIRC. That's to say, if just 1 stat would chance over 25, then the potion won't have any effect on stats.

never tried boosting, but items giving stats are calculated so i sometimes use things like diadems of beauty and necklaces of silver tongue...

Although pots of balance won't give much regular herbs could not do.

As far as I know, you could just drink cursed boost potions to LOWER stats that are too high, and will end up dropping by one when you drink your PoBalance, so that they actually get raised. I usually don't really use my potions of boost -stat-, but do the effects stack? Like, could you drink five cursed potions of boost learning, and then a bunch of balance, and end up with your learning significantly above 25?

Oooh. I feel stupid now, because I actually don't think cursed potions of boost -stat- lower your stat, they just give a crappy (+1-2) bonus...

To OP: Why drink all boost stat potions? Then you get higher average, but then the boost will fade, leaving you nothing.

I'd rather drink boost charisma, appearance and perhaps mana/perception. With those (mostly) useless stats raise, you drink the balance - getting a higher plus to the useful, non-boost stats. Early game-thing, I'd think.

Well first off, can someone confirm for me that cursed potions don't lower the stat? Second, I'd agree with Molach, however, it's rare you'd find potions of boost -anything- in the early game...

My idea, put another way:

Background:

  • all potions of boost stat give a temporary boost to a given stat. blessed give higher boost than uncursed and cursed, but all give raises
  • potions of balance will draw stats towards the average
  • epotions of balance will only increase stats to about 25

My point is therefore:
Have a character with no important stat over 25.
Drink boost -"useless"- stat (appearance, charisma, perception...your choice.
Drink potion of balance, preferably blessed
Enjoy rise in your important stats.

Example: Fighting char. ST, DX and TO are 15, rest of your stats are 10. Stat average is 11. If you drink any potion of balance, you will lose 1 point of ST, DX and TO, and gain in all other attributes. Not good.

However, boost AP and CH by 5 each and you will gain +1 to all stats if you drink a blessed balance potion. If you boost just AP by 10, you will gain +1 to all stats and -1 to appearance. Which might not be such a tragic loss afterall.

Boosting ALL stats will not have any net effect, I'd think.

As far as I know potions of balance now have no efect if any of your stats are over 25 - they're pretty useless these days.

They will not give +1 rise to stats that are above 25. Can still be useful, I'd think. And if getting sick and hungry still works, they are just as good as other stat-raisers, too.

I've almost motivated myself to abuse potions of balance next game - gotta see how that works. Can write a section for the scum-guide if they are feasible.

In ADOM 1.0.0 I used to visit BUGWIL, and exit
with a De stat of 99. Potions of balance worked
wonders then : )

Sickness still causes -5 to To and -3 to Wi, yesterday I raised it to 30 and 27 respectively for my wizard. By hunger you mean "starving" state, right? Seems to be risky...
