I was trying Dark Elf assasins, but they keep dying at low lvls (maybe it's my darn luck - half of them died of a purple "j" created by a corruption trap).
Can someone tell me - what race will the best for an assasin (Dark elves double Find weakness, alertness and climbing)?

Try a dwarf. If you're lucky to get a decent learning score, it can be a kick-ass character. I had a very good dwarven assasin, but I can't remember what killed him. Probably something stupid, as usual.

A dwarf? Thanks.
This time i got an Assasin that had 25 dex and 17 Le but he died on UD:7 - tension room full of powerfull monsters...my adamantium Halbred that i've found wasn't enough - only 54 hp :(
I'll try a Dwarf - maybe this time he'll live through the UD - most of my characters that live after a start like that are realy good (like my only winner who killed the Muli-headed Chaos dragon at lvl 18 :) )

Problem with dark elfs are the slow healing rate and low HP. Makes the early game very hard when you loose half your HP in each hit and have to wait for days for it to heal back up...

I play the game since Gamma 8 and Dark Elf Barbarian was my only win. But i also had one Dark elf Ranger who got killed in the Mana Temple (forgot Death Ray resistance...). Just my favorite race (Dwarves are good, but they don't eat orcs - and those "o" leave the most corpses - they get easly starved in the UD).
My first Dwarven Assasin got cursed&doomed by a Rainbowlizard (it was grey when i attacked it... damn!) and killed soon after that... back to the start:D

I once had a trollish healer (Candle sign of course :-) ) who found eternium 2H sword in SMC. A werewolf lord killed him at the bottom of PC :(.

Maybe you attacked the bugs in melee combat? That would let them know where you were. Or maybe you cast a ball spell. Bolt spells don't alert the bugs to your existence, but ball spells do. I don't think being cursed has anything to do with whether they notice you, although it makes them hit harder once they do.

I hate killer bugs too, unless I'm playing the kind of mage that can simply bolt them to death. I think they're going to take out my current Dwarven Weaponsmith. He ran out of bolt spells and started using a combination of melee and Improved Fireball - but it seems that Improved Fireball lets the bugs find you - why? Now he's reduced to invoking the powers of the Water Orb in order to survive. I had to go to work and leave him, but I'll submit him whatever happens.

I backstabbed all greater claw bugs, and then zapped a wand of acid at the killers - and they found me :( - in one turn 4 of them lowered my hp to 3 from 245 and when i prayed 2 more came :/

Well, I lived :-) It turned out I was closer to having taken out all the bugs that knew about me than I thought, and it only took one prayer to get me through them. Then I just sneaked into the temple and smashed the statues before killing the remaining bugs in melee, carefully, one bug at a time.

EDIT: I died to a greater moloch later, though, and I was so shocked that I forgot to write out a .flg file. I don't think I've got the hang of keeping fighter types alive in the late game yet.

Bugs will not attack in the dark. Soooo, a few applications of the spell (or wand or scroll) can gain a PC quit a few levels in the Bug Temple, not to mention some massive weapon skills. But sadly, no sheild marks.

As for a great character, a level 25 grey elven wizard of mine once found a [+5, +4] robe -2AP. But, I did not care about the Ap loss, I was quite ugly by that time (6 eyes, hooves, etc.).

[+5,+4] ROBE at lvl 25?! Sorry to say it but it sounds pathetic to me - The best i've found was a [+5,+15] red dragon scale mail, and a [-20,+55] moloch armour (no atlas spell no moloch armour).
But the bug/darkness thing is usefull (i killed Blups mom in the dark - it took a long time :P) - thanks! next time i will cast darkness :P

+5 +4 is still pretty amazing for a robe...

Though you are right, a level 25 character would probably have access to something that offer much better overall protection (even the mummy wrapping is better and it give a tonne of resistances and imunities to boot)...

a robe can be destroyed or damaged by anything - a killer bug would make it a [5,0] robe in one turn or destroyed it.
At lvl 25 i usually am after Darkforge, so i have better protection. (but once the only armors in the room where clothes, robes and furs... but he had lots of eterinium weapons and scorched spear so i did not kill the poor dwarf ;))

Bugs are easy kiled by thiefs or assasins backstab. But before enter to bug temple PC must hunting for some bugs corpse on the surface. Archer is the best noncaster character to killing bugs, high dexterity.
Ofcorse they must be invisibility

I was killed ON-THE-SURFACE! Why did i attack the Killers? They where duplcating so fast that by the time i would get 99 Dex i would have a map full of grey "i". Anyone can backstab the bugs - i've done that with barbarians of all kinds, DE Rangers, a couple of Paladins and Priests. Archers... Not only them - if i would have more quirrels of a better crossbow (like Far Slayer - the best artefact there is IMHO :D) they would be no problem - but i only had rust quirrels and a (+3,+3) heavy crossbow.

Better yet: PCs with the Cooking and/or Food Pres. skill can take the bugs to the HMV shop, sell them for safekeeping, and eat them later.

Take a look at the flg od that character - all Greater bugs where dead - those 15 killer are all what was left on the surface (after that, one can safely walk around killing the newly spawn bugs). A wand of acid bolt shouldn't reveal my location to them, but it did (i had invis.). And they all rushed at me.
And what's the point with those black letters? This is the "spoiler" forum, so everyone here wants to get spoiled - otherwise they woulden't open it, right?

The best race for me is the grey elf assasian,
but I usually play necromancers or elementalists, I play grey elves for their mana.

Don't take on the killer bugs unless your speed is around 150. you might be able to survive one round of attacks, but not two (killer bug have a speed of around 150). BTW, what level do you normally go to the temple?

My speed was good enough, it's just that instead of 8 killer there where 16 and growing so i had to take on them.
