I was wondering; how far has everyone gotten? I've beaten the water temple once (and that was luck)

By best char is Solaufein, the Dark Elven Barbarian - he is in 1.0 Winners :D
And once my Orcish Barbarian (gamma 16, not in the HoF) died of corruption on D:48.

1 winner - Celebrimbor, the Gray Elven Weaponsmith (will be in 1.0 winners soon)
1 died on D:50 - Musician, the Drakeling Bard (in 1.0 untimely deaths :) )

No other char had more than two orbs.

ive had 4 wins, barbarian, beastfighter, and 2 wizards. wizards are by far the easiest class to play late in game, like once you come out of the library and have all the cool spells. mainly because of teleportation spell and teleport control, you can escape from any danger except in the orb temples.

I had a level 50 trollish barbarian on D:48 once, and then the game crashed...

That was back in G10 or 12 I think, before the mana temple, blue dragon caves, and all that was implemented though...

Ryan Klein: You need to be deaf to get past the banshee, maybe if you had some more earwax, it wouldn't bee such a problem :)

As I understand you can pacify the banshee if you have a male character wield(!) a wedding ring while talking to her... Never tried it myself though.

When you use beewax try luring the beanshee to the animated forrest - lots of deaths= lots of items (artefacts maybe). I tryied to do that with my last char, but by accident, i killed her with one blow :(
(sadly, almost all of my chars, that get to her are female so i didn't test the wedding ring)

Wield?! I thought you have to have in on finger. Anyway, I never tried that. Effects are unconfirmed, and I usually try to keep alive chars that got so far. Anyway, you can always do that with beewax in your ears, although you won't hear the reply :P.

She's harmless if you can't hear her - like a little stronger goblin :P
The animated forest thingy is good if you want a good fight (and more xps after it) - she gets xps for killing stuff with the wail.

I've never had any trouble with the water temple... On the rare ocations I have a character that get so far it's rarely any problem...

In fact I rarely die in the "special" locations (cause I know what to expect there), I've died from everything from falling down stairs to beeng crushed by to much luggage everywhere else though... I just can't seen to focus enough, most of my deaths could have been easily avoided if I had just devoted a few brain cells to thinking ahead 1 turn (I've had a wizard with the teleport spell and rings of TP try to melee his way past an ancient dragon turle in the water dragon cave for example...)

DE barb may sound wierd, but they rule! Alertness, Find weakness, Dodge x2, very high dex at the start. To can easily be trained with morgia roots, ST is not that low. I had no trouble winning with that guy (Far slayer and 3 penetrating quirrels killed the Multi-headed Chaos dragon, when i was level 18 :> )
Killed by stairs? I've got only killed by my luggage when an undead drained my St, and got eaten by grue in the dark (doomed status) :D

My most stupid deaths:

chaos piranhas x2 (first: I didn't know the ice capacity and checked if it would resist, second: got stunned (or maybe confused) by the skeletal king near the lake, and my char made a wrong step)

kicking the stairs when trying to get past the dwarven portal

My two most entertaining stupid deaths from when I was a newbie:

Turning myself into a chaos being by repeatedly dipping amulets into potions of raw chaos because I wanted an AoLS.

Aged to death by drinking from a pool. I was very old (greater undead vault), and I erroneously believed that since I was wearing an AoLS, if I was aged to death I'd come back with my youth fully restored. I was shocked to see "Your amulet suddenly glows in a silvery light... in vain. Your time has come."

The most stupid death i had is dieing of corruption while searching for spiked boots on D:48 (I didn't know how to get past the ice level, and thought that you need spiked boots to walk on ice :P). And sacrificeing myself to my god at Extremly close (that isn't the way you get crowned? Damn ;P)
This is waaaay off topic thou...:D

Yep. If you sacrafice EVERYTHING else, it will ask if you want to sacrafice yourself. I did it way back when because I thought I'd get extra points

Well actualy you don't have to sacrifice everyting, just so long as you don't wear anything and don't have anything in your inventory it will work...

Try to kick some tough-looking guys, run to the church, jump over an altar, and when they'll do the same, shout: SHIFT-O!!!!

Not the best of ideas I think

wielding the wedding ring on a male char works for the banshee, i used her as a weapon in animated forest to kill all the trees so i wouldnt have to go through the dwarven halls. didnt work, trees spontaneously generate even after killing em all. she gets stronger with each kill, started doing damage to me and had to lose her. by the way im level 40 troll wizard with all the orbs going for an ulti chaos god ending. scumming blue dragon caves for a djin ring
