Still melee-oriented (last one was Orc Barbarian), but some support spells and dirty tactics in this game. I chose a Dwarven Paladin, he got Raven starsign, but started a bit low on stats (Strength 20, Toughness 16).I wanted to see what difference Treasure Hunter did, so went for Good Learner as first talent instead of Alert. I don't count Good Learner as cheating, although it gives some much-needed exp boost.. Maybe I'll try without soon. I started out going to the PC, but after getting a staircase in a dark room without means of light, I had to leave the cute dog behind. Found some blink dogs, got to N+ and got Teleport Control.I got to level 8 and figured I was ready for Keethrax in DD. Got to level 9 or 10 before defeating him, he went down pretty easy in Melee, but he drained a point of toughness (down to 15). Killed my first cat by mistake, so now RotMC.. After getting Herbalism from Guth'Alak, I went to the SC, got the blanket and continued down UD. I always do this, as the Waterproof Blanket is handy for rivers in general, and especially in Water Temple. Also got me a couple of more levels, to get ready for CoC. Found some nice patches of Herbs on UD:4 I think, no herb, but scummed Moria until my Toughness was 25+, figured I got enough moss to raise my dex afterwards (from 12 or something). How wrong I was :P Continued through, but got no altar, so the Oracle got to live for now.. No Stone Giants/Lords, but I think I could've handled them anyway, with about 200 hp already. Talked to Old Barbarian, had to kill another 20 rockthrowers, shouldn't be a problem. Ended up using Summon Monsters to get enough though. Then I got to CoC, did first 19 fights in Arena, went down to DT, had to kill some common monster, don't remember exactly, found it in Big Room. Then went through Animated Forest, no problem with Teleportitis and Control (had picked up some Pixie corpse in upper CoC). Went down to Khelavaster, but didn't talk to him just yet. Had some worries about a Gorgon in the same room (didn't know of the limited petrify range of 2, but managed to take him down in melee! Probably the closest my character was to death in the whole game. Did rest of Thrundarr's quests (got 4 SoCRs from the mystic), then Pyramid, Griffyard, Assassins Guild (angered Assassin Prince after failed pickpocket assassin, then run as hell) and cleared Darkforge. I remember getting the Armour reward from Thrundarr for the Arena quest, got disappointed since I needed a Fireproof blanket for the Tower, but luckily found one shortly after. Visited Water Cave to get the Rune-covered Trident (early as I was lvl 18 Raven). Did Gremlin Cave for fun (and Phial is useful in some situations) And I got crowned Neutral with Hammerhead, but not until getting my equipment turned to dust when I tried to convert to Lawful (1 gp), then converted the altar (5000 gp). Lol, I hope I learn something from that, messed up maximum there... Did the ToEF next, no big problems after reading spellbooks (after 100 literacy and Concentration, with Crown of Science and +6 Learning from Oracle Corpse), used Netherbolt vs. minions, and tried to paralyze ACW like in my last game, but ended up meleeing him after using slow monster after he shrugged the wand like crazy. Got Astral Plane corruption. Did Water temple with darkness on staircase above (had not found any AoLS, so Khelavaster died) and explored down/up to the Fire Wall. Found a large Werewolf Lord Tension room which I actually gave up on clearing after some time (Dire Wolves got pretty badass). Had found only 1(!) scroll of Identify til now, so trained up Climbing and Stealth with Yergius and headed to the Rift (after TotHK) wearing mostly artifacts, junk and food. Managed to avoid the worst destruction (you slip, you fall, BLAMMMM!) only 6 items got destroyed IIRC. Met some quite nasty monsters down there, ancient white/red dragons, doppleganger king, two diamond golems, but managed to take them all out and find a whopping 7(!) scrolls of identify, WOW! Found I had an adamantium long sword of devastation (5d8+11), which was my main weapon for the rest of the game. Then decided to do Minotaur Maze just for fun and thrills, but I won't do it without a higher Detect Traps skill (I had about 60), he avoided the harmless ones, but seemed to always get engulfed by some purple radiation :( Got Scars corruption, and then stiff muscles which was removed with a PoCC. I think I visited about 9 levels, and took out Mages and the Emperor with Lesser Divine Touch (stun ray) and melee (in the case of Emperor missiles, as even the Kings hit very hard). Got Strength potion (got me from 25-27) and two PoCC and the Axe, gained an exp level (27 I think). Probably not worth it, but fun to have done it. Then I finally descended, got a tension room with Ancient Black Dragons, had to take them out :P, but suffered quite a bit item destruction. Got to the Casino, played slot machines and bought everything interesting (Wyrmlance was the artifact). Got Stiff Muscles again, which was promptly removed. Didn't find any Greater Vaults in this game, but encountered a demon lesser vault (hell hounds/least/lesser/great demon), and a golem one (Stone/Iron/Eternium Golem). Cat Lord was pretty difficult, as I forgot he was invisible and hadn't equipped AMW... Walked back to staircase, ascended, teleported away, then equipped AMW and went down, webbed and missiled him to death. Did Air with only artifacts, used Phial on Yulgash, he only got to summon some Lizard men :D Got poison hands, which was removed with a PoCC AFTER equipping Thick Gauntlets. Did Earth, no problems except some blink dogs, which I avoided to avoid alignment change. Dived down UD, found a great karmic wyrm (dragon slaying missiles, saw invisible), and also found Sharad-Waador and couldn't resist trying to take him out. Used minor punishment (magic missile) slowed myself and made him invisible, got 10 mill. exp, and got from about 35 to 46. Found a Ring of Djinni Summoning, wished for Find Weakness (may have been a bit late, maxed it on D:50 :P). Went to Mana Temple, equipped AMW and an AoLS I had picked up somewhere. Used scummy tactics (Wand of Far Slaying/waiting outside the temple), then got him down to critical (after confusing him) with Humanoid Slaying. Then I got the Bright Idea that I should slow myself as against Sharad-Waador to get some more exp. BAD IDEA!! Hit him two more times, still at critical, then he recovered and begun death-raying/stat-draining and confusing me while I was slow. Used Phial and a cursed potion of invisibility, but still couldn't harm him. Ended up getting back to original speed, then slowing him down and meleeing him to death. Still got 2 mill. exp and got up to lvl 48. He got me down to 3xx Hp once, but used some Potions and prayed a couple of times. Worst he did was about 300-400 Hp in a single turn, but luckily I had 8xx hp at the time. After this I went up to the surface again, made some more holy water and did the White Unicorn Quest (should've done Black as Corruption was no problem in this game). Then I got all my SoCRs and PoCCs (from Orb Guardian corpses) and headed down to D:50. Used som wands of door creation and invisibility to avoid the Ghost Lords and Mutants, killed the monsters in the lever rooms and zapped a wand of destruction to end it quickly (Did it the hard way last game, so no bad conscience). Killed a few Balors (Demon Slaying missiles), but didn't bother with Fistanarius, would only have been a grind and I had already reached lvl 50. Got a couple more corruptions down here, but no bad ones. Then decided to explore some more. Dived through the Blue Dragon Caves, and my guess is you'll find some of the rarest monsters in the game down there. No Ki-rins this time, but a Greater Titan (quite tough), a Greater Moloch, and a couple of Skeletal Kings (surprisingly bothersome). And Srraxxarrakex's level was populated with a multitude of Blue Dragons of various sizes (Including a Huge Bat "threat room" in the middle of the cavern). Killed a couple of great wyrms, and then took out Ancient Wyrm with Dragon Slaying/Slaying/Obsidian Quarrel/Penetrating arrows (He had a lot of Hp!). Nice to get a feeling of the difficulty level, pretty high. Then I decided to try to find Filk and the Scintillating Cave, but unfortunately(?) Assassin Prince was still hostile, so I killed him instead (Humanoid slaying missiles/melee). Then I visited Bugcave, digged and scummed, but still quite nasty to a melee fighter at lvl 50, used minor punishment and the staircase for the most part. Removed corruption at White Unicorn's glade. Then I killed Yergius to become head of the Thieves' Guild (managed to kill a hostile beggar in the process to get to N-) and finally found the cute dog on the bottom of Puppy Cave, still not starved to death 90 days after I left him there alone in a closed room :P Brought him back and chatted some with the villagers, then decided to return home to Moria or wherever I was from. Succesful quest, but not a fast victory. Didn't yield too many points neither, as I was in no rush in this game. Fully explored the vast majority of levels I found. Didn't find a single pair of 7LBs in the game, probably should've wished for those instead of Find Weakness :P Last thought: Treasure Hunter is probably worth it. I think the biggest difference is you get more potions/scrolls by the middle game, when you need them the most. Got confused and blind a couple of times. Thought a high level Paladin could make use of most spells.. Bolts came in handy a couple of times though, most notably Nether Bolt in ToEF, and Lesser Divine Touch in Minotaur Maze. Ethereal Bridge and Lordly Might was handy, but since I found a ring of Invisibility early on, I rarely needed Veil of the Gods. Didn't use Cure Critical Wounds Neither, forgot about it, and didn't get hurt much before late in the game, where it wouldn't help me too much anyway. I wouldn't recommend taking Magical talents as a Paladin, rather take missile talents..
