O_o After that, all went normally (aside from Thrundarr asking me to kill a large rust monster >_<) until shortly before the time to descend to the water temple. I'd given up on saving Khel, but then I discovered that I'd picked up an amulet of life saving goodness-knows-where. I think that's the first I'd found aside from wishing. I got precrowned with the black tome of what's-his-face. Thanks, Onn. I caught teleportitis as my second corruption, which was annoying but not horrible. Then, wonder of wonders, a large rust monster showed up on UD:8 (closely followed by a second one, to mock me), so I was back on track. I finished Thrundarr's quests, but had quite an adventure with the greater daemon. I got careless shooting at it and killed a dwarf who stepped in the way. Muscular dwarves attacked, but all the normal dwarves were still friendly. Only Waldenbrook came after me, and I ditched him in the ogre cave. The muscular dwarves killed off most of the population of Dwarftown before I could get rid of all of them. O_o I thought that had been fixed. Did I say uncontrolled teleportitis was annoying? Silly me. I meant "extremely annoying." I finally got teleport control from a Darkforge pool (my 7 arrows of construct slaying lasted just long enough), after finishing Thrundarr's quests. Killing steel golems put me up to L+, and I got crowned -- with the boots of the divine messenger. Nice Dx boost, but I wound up using my 7LB for everything but the ToEF. Along the way I pickpocketed a second AoLS (!). I cleared the water temple pretty easily and killed the Snake from Beyond without getting hit. I stuck it full of arrows and stayed out of melee range with my 7LB. The Ancient Chaos Wyrm died to only 7 hits from blessed rocks (skill 11)! Wow! Blessed missiles make a difference against undead and demons, we know, and apparently make a huge difference against the ACW (not sure about the SfB). I cleared out the rest of the temple for experience (plenty of fireproof blankets this game) and left. On the fourth level of the TotHK caves, I found the scorched spear (better than my other spears, so not bad), guarded by Brunn the minotaur (hello humanoid slaying quarrels, goodbye Brunn). The skeletal king died to a single blessed quarrel of undead slaying. ^_^ I dove through the CoC without anything terribly unusual happening. The casino shop didn't have anything of great interest. I cleared out the air temple (rune-covered trident for demons, humanoid slaying arrows for Yulgash) and earth temple (all my construct slaying ammo) without incident. Then I found a greater vault (my third ever) of fire creatures on D:47. =) The third fire lizard dropped a [+4, +5] crown of fire. =) =) I determined that the baby dragons alone were worth 60K exp. each. I quickly reached level 50 and started enjoying the final archer power -- very nice. In the end, the vault yielded the crown of leadership, Ironfist, Preserver, the emerald dagger, a SoCR, a PoGA, a GoGS, and much miscellaneous goodness (although a frustrating amount of it got burned away before I could get to it). What a haul! I shot my way through the Mana Temple with no unusual difficulty. Nuurag-Vaarn died in 3 hits from humanoid-slaying arrows. Wahoo! I descended and got the hammer of the gods (woo) for my uselessness gift. The balors died to a couple of hits from blessed demon slayers. Fisty took 4, one critical. I went into the blue dragon caves for the challenge and the glory. I started running out of dragon slayers, so I switched to berserking with the emerald dagger and a dagger of death, which worked quite well. I found some nice stuff, most notably a RoDS (which I used for Find Weakness, hoping that would improve my fighting) and yet another AoLS. I killed Barney with little trouble, softening him up with my few remaining dragon slayers and finishing him in melee. I headed back up and fought in the arena until the arena master wouldn't let me fight any more. (He told me everyone had decided I was invincible and wasn't betting against me any more. ^_^) I left and went to the assassins' guild for the first time. I fired an arrow and the alarm rang, but even though the assassin prince was hostile, he still gave me the Filk quest. (I didn't do it.) I killed him and tried out those extraordinary twins for the first time. (Wow!) I explored the rift and library for the first time just for the heck of it. No spellbook of Wish, oddly. Deciding there was nothing left I really wanted to do, I left. Aviloren was by far my most powerful character ever. The missile capability was spectacular enough, especially with the multi-hit power at level 50. Throw in his effective melee fighting and better-than- typical spell learning (thanks to Concentration), and you've got quite a combination. How powerful was he?
