I am really proud of myself!  This is the first tiem I have won the game.
I've been playing for years, I'm not sure how many but I started back when
Hurthlings were still called Hobbits.  

I started out picking my usual character, a high elven paladin.  I did what
I usually do when starting off.  First I headed for the small cave north of
Terinyo, explored it and got the blanket.  Then I complete the Sherrif's 
first quest.  After killing Kranch, I went to save the carpenter, then 
recovered the dog corpse, and did the other usual things done early in the 
game for a lawful character.  

I found an altar on floor two of the village dungeon.  I was able to convert
it rather easily.  Later I came back several times trying to get artifacts.  
Unfortunately, with Gamma 14, your piety decrease, meaning I spent a lot of 
time trying to please my god enough to get an artifact.  By the time I finally
succeeded I was crowned with Justifier.  

One of the reasons for my succes early on was the high learning rate I started
with and the time I spent making sacrifices.  This allowed me to increase many 
of my skills giving me the slight edge I needed to succeed.  

Like many games I did have a few close calls.  One of which was the battle I 
had with Hotzenplotz.  I began my attack by using a few spells.  Hotzenplotz
closed in on me and hit me causing me to be poisoned.  I knew Slow Poison, so
I tried to cast it.  Unfortunately for me I didn't look at the spell list 
long enough.  I cast Slow Monster listed next to it, much to my surprise I got
the message "suddenly everything around you speeds up"!  I thought I was 
dead for sure when that happenes.  I took a lot of damage from Hotzenplotz, 
after another round.  The only thing I could do was escape.  That however 
would be difficult considering my speed was half that of my opponents.  The
only thing I could do was cast darkness.  It worked and I was able to get 
away with only one of the bouncers chasing me.  I cast Slow Monster to even 
the odds, and was able to run off without taking too much damage.  After the
spell wore off of me, I was able to slay the bouncer and take a short time to 
recover.  I returned and quickly took care of Hotzenplotz and the other 
bouncer.  Now that was a stupid blunder I made, that almost resulted in my
defeat!  Later in the game I was passing through the dwarven halls , when 
a Doppelganger King attacked me.  My hit points were quickly depleted and I 
was stumbling around confused from the Doppelganger's confusion tricks.  
I was barely able to recover and teleport to the stairs to escape to safety.  
I was later able to return and finish him off.  One funny thing was the 
last near miss I had was after I had won the game.  I deciced to go into the
infinite dungeon, unfortunately, I had angered Munix so he stopped getting in 
new shipments of food, and the ratling traders only had worms, roached and rat 
tails *yuck*.  I found myself surviving off of my potions.  I had to pray once 
to avoid starving to death.  I made my way back up to the surface.  I found a 
little more food and decided it was time to end this game before it ended 

When I played throught the chaos gate level, the level wasn't too 
difficult for me.  I used my magic to take care of the hoards of monsters.
Still I was worried about that Greater Balor.  He looked powerful and I didn't
want to discover his strength the hard way.  Instead of engaging him in the 
usual melee combat, I pulled out my arrows of demon slaying and used my 
incredible speed to keep my distance.  I was able to quickly fire a deadly 
rain of arrows destroying the Greater Balor.  I probably could have defeated 
him with my sword, but I wanted to be safe.  

Some interesting powers I had were a few intrinsic resistances to attacks I 
received from pools.  I also had my incredible speed that I received from a 
diet of quicklings that I frequently encountered in the wilderness!  My 
strength and toughness were greatly increased as I fought my way down through 
the caverns of chaos.  I think they were more than twice what they were before 
I went downward through the caverns, thanks to some corruption effects.
