This is my first Victory Post ... and my third regular victory. Is it just my impression or is Gamma 12 easier than the earlier ones ? Well, maybe I just finally found out how to beat the game. I didn't have much luck in this game. Except for finding an AoLS on the level above Khelavaster and thus getting 6 SoCR, I just found one more in the blue dragon caves, and a total of 2 PoCC (one in exchange for the Ancient Chaos Wyrm corpse). One wish was found and used (but once again, the pools in DF didn't yield one. I've risked drinking them all the last 10 games, but never gotten a single wish) /* screenshot snipped */ Horklin St:39 Le: 8 Wi:11 Dx: 6 To:37 Ch: 3 Ap:12 Ma: 9 Pe:19 L+ DV/PV: 14/94 H: 1010(1010) P: 20(76) Exp: 50/66447465 DrCh Sp: 125 Blessed Strained! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ /* great stats, ain't them ? Actually they were even worse before leaving CoC lvl 50 ... Horklin left about 200000 gp at the trainer in dwarftown on his way up. He got the "You feel somewhat apish" corruption rather early and decided to keep it around to raise his strength. Unfortunately he didn't get many "you remember your ancestors" */ Horklin's quest started out pretty uninteresting. His first kill was unfortunately a rat, which made finding Filk pretty impossible (hence the use of the wish. I am strongly against making it impossible to wish for him ... so far I've never been able to get to him in the ID) Also I had to leave the beginners cave before finding the stairs down, so no HMV this game (by the time I found a source of invisibility, the game was halfway over, and I'd completely forgotten about it) Finding Kranach took just shortly over 3 1/2 days, and I arrived just a few minutes too late to be able to save Kenny :( I had the good luck of finding an altar in the PC, but unfortunately it was in a dark room, and Horklin had no means of light (neither torch nor tinderbox, and as he was illiterate, spells were out of the question) Anyway, by then I was about level 10, and the carpemter was a breeze, so off to CoC it was. The altar on level one there yielded (after much sacrificing) two precrowning gifts : the emerald dagger (ahem ... not too great for a dwarfish fighter) and Protector (yay, dance around, kiss gods a... ) Not wanting to spend the 57 years of sacrificing necessary for another gift, Horklin decided to find the dwarfen village he heard his father always talk about. On the way there he encountered a large arena with just one ratling trader selling lizards ... quite a handicap. The Waldenbrooks shop had no items of any use, so it was used the rest of the game for selling only. The first dwarfen elder quest was to kill a berserker lord ... just great. So we're off to see the necromancer, the wonderful necromancer of Nonnak. He fell with ease to a combination of eternium scimitar and spear (level 10 in polearms simplifies things quite a bit when the runed trident comes around). The pyramid was as uneventful as the dwarfen graveyard. Only the fact that Horklin still wasn't champion of his god prevented him from being a happy camper, as he didn't dare to use any of his artifacts due to the scareness of food. It took quite a long time to reach L+, even with the amulet of order the sheriff was kind enough to provide, since he had a rather lenghty dance with some 20 blink dogs in the CoC, which brought him down to NL without even leaving a corpse. On the way down the CoC Horklin actually encountered a berserker lord, a fact made that much sweeter because he feasted on a dark sage just a little earlier, imbibing him with the much-sought-after secrets of reading. The way through the living forest and down to Khelavaster went pretty smooth, with an AoLS lying around on the level just above the dying sage. After reaching the wall of flames Horklin finally achieved the needed L+ state, he got crowned at the altar on level 1 with Hammerhead and acid immunity (in my opinion the most useless immunity, but better than a character I had some time ago ... acid immunity and Shezestriakis) He now finally was able to use his nice artifacts he collected. In my usual playing, it would be time for the ToEF now, but up to now only one blanket was generated, and that was waterproof, and just 5 rings, three of which were stun resistance. Fire damage was not the problem, in the CoC a crown of fire was lying around. After checking out the dusty cave and DF and emptying all the pools(still hoping for either fireproof blanket or ring of ice), Horklin decided to brave the tomb of the high king, even though he had no means of invisibility. There on level 2 : a shop. Oh please, let it be a ring shop please, please, pretty please ... YES !!! Ok, now for a ... ok, no ring of ice. YAAAAARRRGH ... Sigh, maybe the cave levels will offer hope ...nope. Then, at the nice red pond, Harklin discovered the advantage of having an intelligent player ... he had no wand of ice, no frost bolt, and no means of building a bridge, which were placed conveniently in Terinyo. Oh well, on the way is the ID, his last hope for blanket or ring. After much climbing and descending of stairs (between lvl 8 and 9), a blanket was finally generated. (funnily, the first time he came to lvl 9, an AoLS was lying right next to the stairs ... weird RNG) After the ToEF (the guardian fell rather easily to wand of stunning and Hammerhead) I attempted for the first time ever to build a bridge (always had either frostbolt or a wand of cold before). Horklin dragged 10 logs down to the lake, and ... figures ... needed 11 to build his bridge. Back to diving down the CoC, he arrived at the casino, browsed the store, but except for some slaying arrows and a helmet of water breathing nothing worthwhile. After finding the secret entrance to DF, he sent Blub back to his mom (having some problems with a greater dragon turtle along the way). A greater vault deep in the CoC yielded Skullcrusher (yummy) and the crown of leadership (yumyum), and a ring of teleport control Rolf's companion in Dwarftown. Somewhere in between the sinister library was raided (was hoping for SoCR, but got disappointed) Further down Horklin eliminated the ancient enemy of some stupid TV character (Barney :) while having both his longbows of hunting eliminated, got the quest to kill Filk from the assassin prince, saw that he already killed 402 rats, and wished for him. In the emperor moloch's cave the correct corruptions for the quickling tree, which raised the speed up to 160. The emperor moloch wasn't too hard with Blub's mom's gift, but he remembered too late to lead the emperor moloch up a level and got three more corruptions. What I then did you probably won't believe ... Horklin went to the mana temple (not too hard with Skullcrusher, humanoid slaying arrows, death resistance and amulet of light) and the endgame forgetting to pick up the trident of the red rooster !!!!!! Now that's a DOOOHHH. Before entering the endgame, he read all of his scrolls of chaos resistance (got some nasty ones ... lots of toughness loss), and two steps after reading the last one got stiff muscles ... another dooh Still not too hard, locked in the chaos mutants and the whole central room. The balors fell to the runed trident as did Fisty (he got just two hits in, thanks to the moloch armour (at least I remembered to take that). On the way back out spent about 200000 gold at the trainer, helped the white unicorn and got cleaned of all corruptions. In the wilderness next to Terinyo, Hurklin wanted to learn all his spellbooks, but after the third book, got a new corruption. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Background Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Horklin Race: male Dwarf Class: Fighter Eye color: brown Hair color: brown Complexion: ruddy Height: 3'11" Weight: 167 pounds Scars: 1 Age: 74 (grown-up, 6 years of unnatural aging added in) Star sign: Sword Birthday: 16/Sword (day 196 of the year) YOUR HISTORY: Your parents are travelling adventurers.
