I'd drunk as many enhancement potions as I could before going through the Chaos Gate, but the effects had pretty much all worn off by the time I caught up to Andor Drakon. He drained a lot of them, bringing me down to "strained", and the writhing masses were responsible for the slowing. Now that I look at the stats again I'm still amazed that I prevailed! Also bear in mind that I was both cursed and doomed during this fight - without those intrinisics it would have been easier to win. They have almost as much access to spells as Wizards with the added advantage of starting with the extremely useful Detect Item Status ability. One magical disadvantage was that I found remarkably few "ball" spells - "Rain of Sorrow/Acid Ball" was the only one. I couldn't even find any in the Library. In that regard, Wizards seem to have better luck, although this may only apply to my games. Playing any sort of Elf makes for quite a challenge at the start of the game. They are much less hardy than other races(except perhaps Gnomes and Hurthlings) which means they hit for less damage and have fewer hitpoints. However, they do excel at magic and with the right spells can eventually develop into a formidable force. Their other advantage is their mobility, often starting with a high dexterity score which means extra speed points. Elves are also a long-lived race, thus neutralising the aging attacks of ghosts. The sign of the Book is great - it makes finding spellbooks easier and gives you an extra skill advance each level. YOUR HISTORY: Your parents belong to the nobility. I'd say go for it if you're up for the challenge, but make sure you've got enough ultra healing potions and corruption cleansing scrolls/potions. As it was, my character was around 99% corrupted - if I hadn't slain Andor Drakon during that attack round I might very well have dissolved during the next. During one of my trips to Terinyo I accidentally bumped into Khelavaster whilst he was invisible. He immediately turned hostile. I think this is rather unfair - the guy turns himself invisible in the middle of a town - how does he expect people to know where he is? It's not as if I was lunging around with my weapons anyway - the movement command doesn't automatically mean that, at least to my understanding. Not to mention that I'd already saved the guy's life! Anyway, I discovered a bug in the game at this point. Even though Khelavaster was hostile, he still summoned up the Trident for me when given the crumpled scroll. Just as well I guess, but I wouldn't knowingly take advantage of this bug a second time(it was a last ditch effort which I wasn't expecting to work).
