This death was perversely funny.  I finally got a bard with decent skills, but
the RNG gave me crappy stats.  Not a big deal, because I had a nice giant rac-
coon named Rocky.  I got the initial quests and then took the sheriff with me
to the SMC.  Thought I would be extra careful, right?  So I carefully took on 
the usual inhabitants of the SMC, although I was slightly surprised to hear  
many "You feel taint in your vicinity" messages.  So I walk into the first 
room and see something that shouldn't happen.  "The goblin rockthrower is en-
gulfed by purple radiation.  He looks extremely corrupted!  He turns into a 
Chaos Mutant!"  I managed to get Rocky to kill off a giant bat in the room 
while playing tag with the Chaos Mutant, but Rocky simply refused to attack
my enemy.  He refused 5 times, and I got annoyed and ended up backed into a 
corner.  Instead of escaping, I tried one last time to get Rocky to help, but
he turned his back while the Chaos Mutant hammered me to the ground in one 
hit (and that wasen't even a critical hit).  I've never seen the SMC generate
such an out-of-depth opponent before.
