Being a wizard, I started out by roaming the first few levels of the ID. I had been
wanting to play a whip-wielding character for some time; upon finding a scourge in
the ID, I went ahead and used it even though it was horrible. After getting to exp.
level 9 and generating some useful spellbooks, I went through the SMC and UD and
arrived in the high mountain village. I followed my usual routine and went into the
CoC as far as the arena, won 19 fights, stocked up on food, went back east to do the
puppy cave, and then came back to the CoC.

D:7 contained a ring shop, in which were stocked 3 rings of ice and a RoDS. I used the
wish on a whip of the snake, and I went from being horrible in melee to pretty damn 
ood. Further down, on the big level, I got a pair of 7LB from a random monster drop. 

Upon getting to Dwarftown, I went to the mystic and was given the 4 SoCR treatment. 
The first random monster quest was easily fulfilled, but I had ventured down too far,
and the animated forest quest was replaced by another random monster. I figured there
was no better place to find a cave lion than in the black druid's dungeon, so I headed
back east again. I killed lots of cats, the black druid, and Hotzenplotz. Back in
Dwarftown, I finished all the quests including the fifth, for which I used teleport
and arrows of demon slaying to get the job done quickly.

By this time I had alchemy at 100 and the necessary ingredients for 5 PoGA, and another
PoGA I had found. After this nice stat boost, I went to the dwarven graveyard. I used
slaying ammo on Griff and killed Nonnak in melee. After recovering the artifacts, I
started digging up graves. I got lucky and only had to face master liches. Upon ID'ing
my spoils, I had the artifact crown of leadership, a ring of slaying, and another PoGA.
I went to Darkforge, lightning bolted and/or melee'd the golems, and used slaying ammo
on their creator. There was absolutely nothing useful in either of the store rooms. I
think I was up to exp. level 21 by this time, and decided I was ready for the ToEF.

In preparation, I went back to Dwarftown briefly to sell some items and get crowned.
I got shock immunity and the staff of the wanderer. I immediately sold the staff for
~42k and used the gold for training with Garth. Without fire immunity and almost no
resistance, I was taking ~3 damage per move in the ToEF, so I magic mapped and 
teleported up to the top. The ACW came down my newly dug corridor after only three or
four fire demons. I stunned it, and then sat next to it casting ice ball repeatedly.
It worked fairly well, as I gained no corruption and lost minimal HP.

After claiming the fire orb, I did the RotHK caves, where I found a SoCR on one of
the cavernous levels. I turned the red lake into a skating rink with ice ball in case
of confusion, yet underestimated the skeletal king and got hit for ~130 damage while
scorching him with burning hands. A quick prayer probably saved me from a careless death.

I then flirted with death again by venturing into the bug temple. The surface was easy
enough, with magic missile taking out most of the greater claw bugs in one hit.
Descending into the temple proper, and the initial "suicide room", was another matter
entirely. Upon descending the stairs, my HP went from ~260 to ~40. A divine intervention
healed me, but after a round of being clawed by bugs, I was back below 50 HP. I realized
I was in a bit of bad situation, since I couldn't pray, ascend the stairs, and teleport
away without the bugs getting two rounds on me. I figured I was probably going to die
otherwise, so I prayed, went down to ~120 HP, and went up the stairs. The next round of
hits miraculously did only ~50 damage. I teleported away and got the hell out of there.

I then stashed my good equipment and descended the rift. After a lot of broken bows,
arrows, and potions, I made it to the library. Except for killing a moloch in melee just
to see if I could, I used magic missile almost exclusively to clear everything. I got all
the books, including the weird tome, and went to the Mad Minstrel for the 5 SoCR. While
out and about, I donned a helm of water breathing and said hello to Blup's mom. She had
nothing interesting in her treasure hoard.

Went down to the casino next, the only interesting items in which were another whip of
the snake and an AoLS. There were also some potions that led to more creation of PoGA via
alchemy. D:33 or so had a greater vault of fire creatures. Frost bolt was used to great
extent. After the battle, I found Preserver, the hammer of the gods, thunderstroke, and
Far Slayer. Also in the loot were three RoDS (!), presumably dropped by dragons. I then
killed the cat lord with slaying ammo after luring him off the level. I also found a
lesser vault of blue dragons at this point. I used death ray a bit, and acid ball. A ring
of slaying was the only really good item generated.

With my newly found equipment and considerably more HP (~450), I went back to exact
revenge on the bugs. It was easy this time around. I went into the "suicide room" in
coward mode and acid balled everything. After that, it was a matter of well-calculated
magic missiles into the other rooms to clear the entire temple and get the 3 SoCR. The
earth temple was next, which I cleared using burning hands and melee. I reached exp.
level 50 about this time.

The mana temple was fun. I used blessed scrolls of power to get some PP back after all of
the eyes, cast farsight, and used wands of poison and magic missiles to clear the entire
thing. About halfway through this process, the archmage came forth, casting darkness. I
cast light in response, and took him down with Far Slayer and slaying quarrels. I must
say, it felt empowering to cast magic missile from the entrance of the temple and have it
bounce off the back wall to take out chaos servants.

D:46 had another greater vault, this time giant-kin. The artifact loot from this one was
simply awesome: bracers of war, Ironfist, Hammerhead, and Long Sting (okay, it could have
been slightly better, but I wasn't complaining). I felt I was ready to do D:50 at this
point, so I did. A potion of uselessness on D:49 yielded the staff of the archmagi, which
was unfortunate.

D:50 was a cakewalk compared to other times I've been there. Magic missile dealt with the
WMoPC quickly. I created doors to block the chambers of chaos mutants and magically
locked them to be dealt with later. About this time, Fistinarius and the balor contingent
teleported in. I killed all of the balors in melee, and tried to with Fistinarius. After
twenty rounds, I had lost ~100 HP, and he was only slightly wounded. I backed off and
used demon slaying ammo, which he fell to after ~10 hits (and quite a few misses). The
rest of the level I was in cleanup mode. I teleported into the main chamber, set tactics
to coward, got surrounded, and acid balled everything. I then cleared the mutant rooms
with farsight and bounced magic missiles, then did the same with the lever rooms. All
in all a much nicer experience than my previous winner, a non-spellcasting gnomish ranger.

After closing the gate, I went back up. A swamp hydra on D:47 dropped another RoDS. I
visited the quickling tree for no particular reason (other than to advance the game
clock, I guess), and then got cured of corruption by the unicorn. Blue dragon caves were
next, where I used magic missile (at +51 effectivity by now), acid ball, and some melee.
I stood next to Barney and scorched him with burning hands while he did a total of maybe
~200 damage to me. I then surfaced and cleared the assassin's guild just so I could have
the twin daggers, and left the Drakalor Chain.

Things of note:

Alchemy is great, though I suppose this is based on what the ingredients are for the PoGA.
I created ~12 throughout the game, which was quite helpful.

Found no wands of wishing, but 5 RoDS (of which I used only one). I couldn't think of
anything to wish for... I suppose I could have gotten more ingredients for PoGA.

I accidentally skipped the pyramid this game. I also accidentally skipped the pyramid with
my last winner. Coincidence or "mummy's curse"? :)

Armed with high effectivity magic missile, burning hands, and acid ball, it seems a
character can take out just about anything in the game.

I love scrolls of defense and protection.
