First TotRR, first RotMC. I've played dark elven necros ever since I started playing ADOM (that was some of the gammas a few years ago - although I usually only play ADOM two or three months in a given year, cooling down somewhat after each feverish fits), and I've never had much luck with them. Stylish. But challenging combo, definitely. Crappy fighting, crappy stats and equipment, so-so spellcasting, crappy class powers, not much in terms of skills, - not even healing, - chaotic, Waldo hates dark elves, - the list goes on and on. Nevertheless, ever since I've had my two victories (normal HE wizard and OCG DE assassin) I thought I could take on the Ultimate In Evil - UCG Dark Elven Necromancer born under the Raven. Took me at least a hundred tries, and none of them have ever seen an Orb, - (a couple looked like winners, but I've lost them to non-game related reasons: blackout and mess-up with anti-blackout backups, - isn't it ironic?) - but finally I succeded. This char was not very lucky. Nothing really bad has ever happened to him, but there were ve-ery few things to get excited about. First of them was three starting talents. Which I wasted anyway, taking my usual Fey-Blooded, Learned, Strong of Will. Second was decent starting stats (and spellbook of Frost Bolt instead of tract of chaos). Okay. Got my quests, killed me a mugger, killed Hotzy and his cronies, collected gold, bought lots of food and hunted down Kranach, got my $3,000 but no bows (which is quite unusual). Lawful altar on VD: 5. Converted, got Healing from Jharod, two precrownings. Skullcrusher and Purifier. Both have seen some use, but I don't consider them GOOD precrowning gifts. Preserver, BoW, robes of resistance, RoI, Havlor, or even crown of leadership, - that's what I call a good gift. Nevertheless, beats the Thunderstroke and Alsophocus, of course. (And one of my many necros had got just that. Geez. I *had* to drown him, even considering the value of those two as a ratling fodder.) Beehive on PC: 1 gave me some trouble, but I prevailed. Found corpse, vault was easy IIRC, but also didn't give anything useful. Dived to I10, getting pickpocket marks and a few spellbooks. Converted to neutrality by killing a couple of beggars, Tywat Pare and Jharod, got Detect Traps. Converted back to LN. Blessed a couple of carrot juices, and got Swimming. Went to SMC, had some tense moments, but found the downstairs. No blanket, but I didn't care much. No rivers or herbs in the UD, and no altars; vaults weren't too good. But there was a ring shop, and, Jesus Christ, it contained a RoDS! (And shopkeeper was a dark elf, too.) An ultra was now obviously possible without too much hard work. So, went to HIVI, Leggot was a gnome, good for Dark Elves. Made a stash at MM's. By now I was somewhere around Clvl 15, so I decided to do the Pyramid before going to CoC. And a jackalwere on the first level dropped another RoDS! Jeez! At this moment I thought I had another ultra-lucky character on my hands (my OCG DE assassin was one of them), but it wasn't exactly the case. Blessed the RoDS, wished for 7LBs. Only got two pairs (which was the first sign that he wasn't really 'ultra-lucky'). The fight at the top was easy due to Invisibility. There was some kitty, but I just ignored it. On a side note, I never had any problems with kitties. A few corpses usually ensured that I always could create a fresh ghul, who would eat any sorry furry butt alive. Calm Monster also helped, and Farsight ensured I wouldn't kill some with a super-powerful bolt spell. During the game I've created 19 undead: Wrath, a wererat lich, was created just for the fun of it, and it was nice to watch him mangle those wimpy monsters in a single barrage of magical-whatever-it-was. I've left him right above the Dwarftown. Other 18, Kittyslayers Mk.I-XVIIIC were designed specifically with kitty slaying in mind. Most of them were ghuls (and some died carrying out their duty), with two exceptions: Kittyslayer Mk.XIIIB, a dark elven princess wraith, and Kittyslayer Mk.XVIIIC, a doppelganger lord skeletal warrior. All in all, Necromancy was fun, but not very helpful with the game in general, kitty quest aside. Well, for the CoC. D: 1 book shop, nice, but no SoA, and I was already getting somewhat low on that; had to rely on Skullcrusher, girdle of strength and, later in the game, Orb of Fire. Big Cave wasn't anything special. Morgia roots, stoma, and some spider factories. Si, forge ar D: 9, D: 10 - Dwarftown. First quest: grizzly bear. Found one on D: 11. From the ring shop in UD I had some RoTCes, so Dwarven Halls were not a problem, too (with just a little help from magic mapping). Cleared the Ogre Cave, finished the Arena. Decided to leave the demon for later, as I didn't have any demon slayers. Went to surface, dived and teleported to Blup's Mom, had a thrilling fight with a giant dragon turle by the stairs. Informed Blup, got RCT soon. Cleared the Dwarven Graveyard, lost one of my two pairs of 7LBs to an acid trap. Bought the RoDS from that shop, got to Khelly, and wished for an AoLS. Dived to the wall of flames, clearing the graveyard, getting shock immunity and killing the Banshee in process. On my way back cleared the Water Temple, which had an anthill inside the inner sanctum (there were lots of hives in the early game, kill list states ten; I got to the point of reacting to buzzing/clicking sounds with, 'OMG!!! Not ANOTHER one!!!'). Improved my missile weapon skills there somewhat. 90 days limit passed around here. Also had some corruption problems: got stiffened muscles twice as my first corruption, and wasted a (random drop) PoCC trying to clear it - sipped one too late, doing essentially nothing. TotHK: nothing special, just some spider factory trouble, but hardly anything else memorable. DF: quite easy with Purifier and Lightning Bolt, but the vaults were crap. I think one black dragon scale mail was all I got. ToEF, a couple of strength increases, and the fire ate some equipment after blowing thru my only ring of ice (I had more, but needed the second ring slot for the RoTC). The fight was a little on the toughish side, despite all my Ice spells (including Ice Ball), but I prevailed, took the orb, and cashed in the ACW corpse. (The snake was safely stashed at Waldo's and I brought it to Guth'Alak somewhere later in the game.) Okay. Beyound the wall of flames. (Pacified the Big Cave on my way there, but didn't harvest much.) D: 26 - nasty surprise, a living wall! Those beasts can be dangerous. D: 25 - threatening room. JESUS CHRIST, it's LIVING WALLS! (looks weird, btw) Took a long time to clear out. Casino. Utter crap. Ironically, the most useful item in the entire stock was potion of uselessness. (Well, I'm a bit dishonest here, I've found four more PoUs later, and I've also bought the scroll of danger from the Casino - the only one in the game.) Checked Gift Shoppe a couple of times later in the game, but it was even worse - not worth the SoI spent on sorting the stuff. Presumably I've spent some time on a surface after finding the shortcut, but I don't have the barest idea what the heck I was doing there. Checking the shops, selling the loot and stuff, I guess. Ring shop restocked with another RoDS, which I bought, and it was a Good Thing, even though I've never used it. Oh, sorry, I do remember. I was Clvl 24, and, of course, it was about time to visit the Minotaur Maze. Which was quite horrible. I've only been there once, with my OCG character, and even though he has found the place hell, I've never realized just how lucky he was. You see, he hasn't seen a SINGLE false level. He just got to the bottom, killed the big cow, and got out. This time was different. Lots of false levels, Magic Map didn't really help alot, and even though I was very focused this time around, and didn't explore all the nooks and crannies, and didn't went out of my way to kill every critter I saw, it took a lo-o-ong, long time (and a full corruption to boot). Mana Battery, which I used to boost my PP a little, then dumped. Bad Thing - I wasn't really buff enough to take on the minos in melee, which surprised and alarmed me. Not enough DV/PV, not enough damage dealt. In the end, worked in my favour - I was becoming a little too warriorish, and this helped me return on the spellcasting ways. Anyway, mazes are well worth it. Two PoCC, potion of strength, spellbook (was Death Ray this time) and AotME, which's a good weapon and an acceptable ratling fodder. Back to the CoC. Bunnies, simple. Cat level - oh, what a novelty, a non-hostile Cat Lord :-) No 1,500,000xp, too, though. And, anyway, fighting the CL helps your karma - at least you start realizing how those goblins must feel. Imagine a blurred shadow of you blazing outta corridor, and before the poor sod can react, before he can cry in terror, heck, before he even really KNOWS what's going on... he's already bisected (twice or thrice) and his warm dead body is being devoured by the evil you, or, even worse, being raised as a mindless ghul, to serve his new master (the same evil you) forever... Ugh, sorry, got carried away. Acid immunity from a cavernous level somewhere around D: 36. Had to kill two slugs, first one didn't leave the corpse. Lucky, anyway. Air temple - another corpsey PoCC, and some equipment loss to being too headstrong (not much - fell back and regrouped in time). A few levels deeper... ~D: 43... and yet another threatening room... Hmmm, I wonder what those brown &s were, some sort of not-so-lesser, slightly-below-mediocre demons, hee hee? *THUMB* *THUMB* *THUMB* *THUMB* *THUMB* *THUMB* *THUMB* *THUMB* *THUMB* JESUS HOLY CHRIST!!! GREATER MOLOCHS!!! Frankly, I don't believe I wished for an emperor moloch. Being Clvl 29 this deep in the CoC I whined a little about gaining levels slowly, yes, - but that's just *a little*, and there's no need to throw coupl'a dozens of greater molochs in my (suddenly snow white) face!!! Well. It took a long long time, and all of my penetrators/demon slayers, and quite a lot of castings of Magic Missile (and Frost Bolt, until I realized the bastards were immune). And I really shouldn't've never ever ever meleed the things. I only realized that I was underestimating them when one of them finally managed to land a critical on me, and took me from full health to 14HP in just that one blow. I thanked RNG, thanked the gods for lucky and fate smiles, and thanked Rehetep (now deceased) for his ankh, then just stayed out of their reach. 23 GMs brought me a whopping avg. 400,000xp apiece, totalling well over 9,000,000xp (and I only had ~6,500,000 when the bloodbath started), 2 hulking armors, quite a few weapon marks and effectivity increases; and now I was Clvl 44, much more in accord with the depth I was at. Deeper into the CoC. A couple of scroll shops, and two lesser vaults of red dragons (cakewalk). No Greater Vaults :-( Earth Temple is not really worth mentioning. Sure, it's the most tedious of the temples, but hardly anything else... (Another PoCC, yes.) Unreal Caves. On UL: 2 got the second quickling corruption, and, after clearing the threatening room full of black unicorns (quite a hell) went back to surface. Bugcave, cakewalk, and I don't care for my Wi (especially since I've got morgia roots in a pacified Big Cave). Never really recovered, but brought it back into the teens soon enough. Quickling tree. Soon upon entering received the dreaded poison hands. Hurried back to my stash to recover and... right... picked up a PoCC... just one, by sheer luck (I had two stashes at MM's - the stuff I usually carried with me and the stuff for safekeeping, and in this stash there was just one of 'em). After some cursing wore thick gauntlets and drank another PoCC. Back to the tree, quite a cakewalk, but not a lot of corpses, and even fewer speed increases... I think there's a limit on how high quicklings can get your Sp. 'Disappointed!' Spent some time trying to get myself to N, and then some (after training Climbing with Yergius) to get the skill increases. Then converted back to L. Rift, fell, as usual, lost some stuff, but nothing too good. A couple of tension rooms full of orcs and ogres helped my strength - I've just discovered I've picked up a ring of weakness somewhere. Library, quite easy (sure, I was Clvl 50 already...). A SoCR and a SoA, among other things. And the weird tome, of course. Okay, went back to UL: 2. Dived to Sharad-Waador, entered the BDC. Didn't spend a lot of time there. Explored all levels but the last, but didn't kill a lot of things. On the last level just iceballed the Shywhatever to death (a couple of wyrms were caught in the range, and died too). Took my loot, and killed AKW. After brief consideration decided to do the MT. Quite hellish. But finally the bastards managed to piss me off, and that's one thing they didn't want to do. I left the corridor, entered the fray, and started acidballing from health. Proved absolutely lethal for them. Left a couple of magedoom eyes and annihilators behind, was too bored to finish them off - but all the major baddies were safely dead. And got another PoCC, of course. Okay, Filk quest. Went in the ???? invisible and talked to the AP. Entered ID, and what do you think was the first thing I saw? One certain quickling bard right next to me. A single scorching blast of burning hands, and he was done for. That was hilarious! Talked to the MM, and went to the SC. Again, I used the focused approach, which is - blessed scroll of magic mapping, teleport to downstairs, go down, repeat. I really didn't want to take any chances with corruption - that was what almost killed my OCG. Well, emperor moloch proved to be quite hellish an adversary. I've spent all of my penetrators and demon slayers, and he was only critically wounded. Tried to melee him, but that was a bad idea. With 100HP left I fell back and killed him with acid bolts, getting stiffened muscles in process. Took the loot and fled, without even collecting the ammo spent. Upstairs immediately drank a blessed PoCC, but, obviously, I underestimated the corruption levels on the EM level, since it didn't remove the stiffened muscles. That's a third PoCC wasted. Good thing I had a lot of corruption removals (including white unicorn). Well... got the TotRR. And yes, I was impressed :-) Did the Gremlin Cave :-))) There was a most convenient chaotic altar there. Tried to get me enough mugger kills, but got bored, so killed the old barb, oracle and Kherab (and maybe a few others for a good measure). Didn't slaughter Terinyo and Dwarftown, so I'm not TOO evil :-) Robbed all the graves with great treasures. Got a couple of some nice items (7LB? SoCR? can't remember). Didn't get me an emperor lich to kill. Only master liches and a single lich king. Got crowned chaotic with gold (just around 200,000gp, I think) with fire immunity, and robes of resistance, which was most convenient. Drained the pools in DF, which didn't do me much harm, aside from aging somewhat, and dooming a couple of times - but granted me huge lots of important instrinsics, including teleport control, and two wishes. First went on SoCRs almost automatically. Only got two, though. Second wish almost puzzled me - I didn't know what to wish for (and I already had a spare wish in my stash). Maybe should've been more SoCR, or, I dunno, Athletics? but I settled on Courage. I didn't really need the GoGS or more 7LBs. *shrug* Unfortunately, I just missed the 180 days mark, so I spent some time in the wilderness, scumming with crown of science and improving my weapon skills. Got bored very quickly. Fed the ratling - Boots of Great Speed, Moon Sickle, Crown of Science, Phial of Caladriel, Big Punch, Axe of the Minotaur Emperor. Satisfied the Gaab'Baay - a farmer was monsterdetected in the HIVI itself, and dropped a corpse. Dropped the medal at DF. Now I did some things I was planning from the beginning of the game. Spent my SoIMA/IMD on improving my early orcish knife of might damaged by some jelly. Totally wasted my SoP/SoD - they all turned to grey ash. Was somewhat pissed off at myself, should've removed the artifacts, and only left the items I really wanted improved. But oh. No big deal. Drank five PoGA and some potions of stat. (Those worked strangely being at the potential limit - I think I've messed up here too, should've been saving potions of potential stat). Decided to write a few SoE, and it was incredibly stupid. The very first one drained 12 Ma that I never recovered. Blargh... Oh, no big deal anyway, it's just... ;-( Went to stone circle, cleared it easily. Took the corpse with me. Breezed through D: 48. D: 49, uselessness - BoW. Gee, thanks :-)) Breezed through D: 50 - you can only imagine just how easy it is for a character going for an ultra. Collected the loot (including the 'Long Sting', which was fifth and the last random artifact in the game). Ate the corpse. Equipped the Medal, the Crown, - and, of course, I already had the TotRR in my clutches. Soon I was extremely corrupted (gee, I've already wrote those words once, in my OCG YAVP :-) Lit the torch. Drank my huge heaps of boosters. Drank all of my six blessed speed boosters. Entered the gate. Wasn't impressed this time ;-) Read my six blessed scrolls of peace. I had 16 blessed SoCRs and 3 blessed PoCCs, so I cleared all of my corruption. Casted Farsight. Zapped WoMD. Zapped WoT. Started whacking at Andy, being thoroughly bored. Removed a couple of corruptions I didn't like. Killed Andy. Hey, no big deal... :-) Anyway, where can I get my club membership card? :-) Some stats: - Five wishes: two RoDSes from a ring shop in UD, random drop RoDS in the Pyramid, two from the pools in the DF. - Four wishes spent: 7LBs (got 2), AoLS, SoCRs (got 2), Courage. - No Greater Vaults - Two Lesser Red Dragon Vaults, several boring lesser vaults - Some pits: D: 25 living walls, D: 32 diamond golems, ~D: 43 greater molochs, UL: 2 black unicorns, ~SC: 5 chaos warriors (left it alone), SC: 9 fire giants (left it alone, although it was tempting...) - Corruption removals: * white unicorn, just before becoming C for crowning. removed around 10-11 corruptions * 5 PoCCs from Guardian Corpses * 2 PoCCs from Minotaur Emperor * 2 or 3 random drop PoCCs * 6 SoCRs from Khelly * 1 SoCR from HIVI * 3 SoCRs from BUGCAV * 5 SoCRs from MM * 2 SoCRs from my third wish * 3 or 4 random drop SoCRs (vaults, graves and such) * Total: 9-10 PoCCs: 3 effectively wasted, 3 left, three or four used 20-21 SoCRs: none left - Just five random artifacts: * Skullcrusher from precrowning * Purifier from precrowning * robes of resistance from crowning * bracers of war from uselessness * Long Sting random drop on D: 50 Rhy vynMyrrt St:75 Le:75 Wi:36 Dx:99 To:79 Ch:12 Ap:39 Ma:89 Pe:42 C- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Natural stats 75 34 28 70 52 12 19 36 29 before entering ChAoS plane Regeneration rates: 1hp/20t, 1pp/5t ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DV/PV: 71/87 H:1028(1052) P:2(1408) Exp: 50/42769823 ChAoS Sp: 318 Blessed Bloated Berserk ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Background Information ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Rhy vynMyrrt Race: male Dark Elf Class: Necromancer Eye color: blue Hair color: white Complexion: black Height: 5'10" Weight: 127 pounds Scars: 1 > from corrupted tissue, > most likely. should've > healed, had royal gelee > with me - if only I had > known I had a scar...
