Started by luring a farmer out of Terinyo and killing him, then headed
to the Small Cave, located the waterproof blanket and the down
staircase, and popped out to kill Kranach and learn Pick Pockets.
Went through the Unremarkable Dungeon where I found several altars,
saved the carpenter and brought back the dead puppy. Killed the crime
lord and trekked to the Caverns of Chaos.

Picked up some quests from Thrundarr (who asked me to kill a giant
rat, which must be the easiest random monster quest I've ever had).
Since I was level 16 by now, did the Pyramid, then freed Griff's soul,
went back to Dwarftown and did the rest of Thrundarr's quests. The
greater daemon killed Glod before I could lead it to the altar. I had
not engineered this, but it was useful. I picked up his yellow
eternium warhammer and used it until I found a mace of destruction
much later, except against heavily armoured monsters who got an orcish
spear of penetration instead.

Headed on down until I found Khelavaster, and tried my healing skills
out on him, but all ADOM had to say about that was "Khelavaster, the
dying sage, does not seem to be injured". Oh well... off to hunt for
an amulet of life saving. Started with the Gremlin Cave (killing them
with Light spells), then tried the first level of the Bug Temple
despite lacking invisibility. After getting mauled many times and
using up all my potions of extra healing, decided I wasn't ready for
that yet. I didn't feel up to trying Darkforge either (I had no ring
of ice and not many offensive spells), so I went to the Tomb of the
High Kings, although I had no way to freeze the water on the final
level. Here I found a source of morgia roots for the first time this
game, and a few levels down I found an ordinary ring. A quick
identify confirmed that it was RoDS, so I zoomed back to the Caverns
of Chaos and saved Khelavaster. Now that I could cast Teleportation I
visited the Dwarven Mystic and got more scrolls of chaos resistance
from him.

I picked up a ring of invisibility and _two_ more RoDS on the way down
to the wall of flames. The wishes went on seven league boots and
spellbooks of Frost Bolt (I figured that these would allow me to get
the RotHK, clear out the Bug Temple, and if I had any castings left,
would come in handy in the ToEF). Got the RotHK and did the Bug
Temple, eating all the corpses and getting my speed and Dx way up.
Cleared out Darkforge and drank from the pools until I finally
acquired intrinsic free action, then decided it wasn't worth drinking
from pools any more.

I still had no ring of ice, but entered the Tower of Eternal Flames
anyway. This may have been unwise, as my girdle of carrying was
quickly destroyed, so I was Strained for a while. Then I got the
apish corruption - at first I was annoyed because I had left all my
SoCR in my stash, but then I realised that it was useful right now. I
badly needed more St, my Wi had not been trained much after the Bug
Temple, my Dx had been raised to 99 so it didn't matter if it went
down slightly, and Ch and Ap don't matter much, so the only important
stat to take a hit was Learning. The increased Strength and the Fire
Orb resolved my carrying capacity problem, and I found a replacement
girdle of carrying later in the game. After leaving the Tower I cured
the apish corruption and went back to TotHK to pick tons of morgia
roots.

I went on down the Caverns of Chaos, stealing everything I wanted from
the Casino shop as usual. The Cat Lord was really tough, probably
because earlier a hostile wizard had summoned hordes of cats against
me and I'd killed them all. I gained two levels killing him, but
generally gaining experience was a problem this game.

When I finally reached level 30, I headed up to get the unicorn
quests. I decided to do the black unicorn's quest to turn chaotic,
since with 16 SoCR already (from Khelavaster, the Dwarven Mystic and
the Bug Temple) I was unlikely to need the white unicorn's cleansing.
The only thing I still needed to satisfy the ratling and Gaab-Baay was
a giant boar skull, which I quickly found by wearing the Crown of
Science and searching the forest. Then I killed Yrriur, which dropped
my alignment to C- (I hadn't realised it was _that_ chaotic). Fed the
ratling six artifacts and gave Gaab-Baay her stuff, then headed for
the nearest neutral altar to turn neutral again and get crowned.

Since my Wi was high enough by now, went down the Rift hoping for more
useful spellbooks, and emerged knowing many handy spells including
Strength of Atlas. (Human Healers seem to do just fine at learning
spells, but hardly ever find spellbooks.) Decided not to try Keriax
yet, because I didn't know Death Ray, and had been severely corrupted
and drained when fighting him in a previous game.

Back to the Caverns of Chaos, where I found another RoDS in the blue
dragon caves - this went on spellbooks of Death Ray. After exploring
the entire CoC and retrieving all the Orbs, I still needed more
experience before I could get the Filk quest. So I zapped
Sharad-Waador with a death ray, which got me to level 44, and I gained
the remaining level by diving into the Infinite Dungeon.

Did the Filk quest, then went and killed the Emperor Moloch, using
Berserk tactics and an orcish spear of penetration and retreating
whenever I needed to heal. Then back to Terinyo where Khelavaster
summoned the Trident for me (first time I ever got it!) Hung around
in the wilderness until I could enter the Stone Circle, and killed
Keriax with one zap of Death Ray.

Collected everything from my stashes, and zoomed down for the last
time. Paused on D:48 to identify and uncurse everything I owned and
bless anything that could conceivably be useful in the fight against
Andor Drakon. I became extremely corrupted on D:50 without really
trying, and also achieved experience level 50 there - those eight
points of toughness were nice.

Equipped the Crown and Medal of Chaos, drank my stat boosting potions,
and entered the gate, hoping I'd fulfilled all the criteria for
surviving to the Plane of Primal Chaos. Fortunately the Trident and
my extreme corruption seemed to keep me from harm. Removed and
dropped the Chaos artifacts and read all remaining SoCR, then headed
for Andor Drakon. Attacking him with normal tactics didn't seem to
achieve much, but when I went Berserk with the Trident it worked much
better, and fairly soon he was dead. I was magically cleansed of my
corruption and transformed into an Avatar of Balance!

Blessed Bloated Berserk

Following advice in the Guidebook, I blessed and drank every stat

in the end it proved easiest to whack him to death with the Trident.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                    Stuff
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Total weight: 32709 stones Carrying capacity: 87475 stones

(Snipped almost everything - once I knew Strength of Atlas I never
stopped casting it.)

One-handed weapons ('(')
uncursed orcish spear of penetration (+1, 1d8+2) [75s]
uncursed pick axe of penetration (+0, 1d6+1) [75s]
   uncursed mace of destruction (+4, 5d6+6) [120s]
uncursed mithril dagger of penetration (+0, 1d4) [8s]

I kept all weapons of penetration for heavily armoured foes, and
switched between the mace of destruction and the orcish spear of
penetration until I got the Trident.

Rings ('=')
blessed ring of djinni summoning [1s]

I was going to wish for speed on the Chaos Plane, but then I forgot
about it. Oh well, I was fast enough anyway from all the bugs I'd
eaten.

Potions ('!')
heap of 4 blessed potions of extra healing [8s]
heap of 14 blessed potions of ultra healing [28s]

It was the first time I'd ever faced Andor Drakon, and I was terrified
of him, so I very carefully blessed every healing potion I had before
entering the gate.

Books ('"')
   uncursed tract of order [250s]

Read it once or twice, and felt an increase in inner strength but
didn't notice any effects. Is it of any use to a neutral character?

Gems ('*')
heap of 14 blessed crystals of health [14s]

More overpreparation for Andor Drakon.

                              Her further life:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

After slaying Andor Drakon and dispersing his malevolent energies the scales
of Balance appear before you. All the forces of Balance seem to be united
behind them. You are lifted to the status of an Avatar of Balance and the
tales of your deeds are spread all over Ancardia.

Your deeds are recounted at camp fires and interpreted by philosophers and
priests alike. The common man looks up to you and you slowly start to be
revered as a minor power of Balance. After a few millennia have passed you
are raised to the position of a demi-god to guard Ancardia from the forces
of Chaos and Order forever.

Under your guidance Ancardia becomes a balanced and happy world, enjoying
its own freedom to be never again threatened by the unbalancing powers of
the universe.
