First ultra ending. A drakeling monk is an easy character. You don't have to worry about a good weapon early in the game, for emergencies there is the breath attack, no food problems, you are lightning fast in and out of the ToEF, and it's really nice to be able to switch places with hostile monsters. The early game was quite easy. SMC, Kranach, through the UD to HMV, Hawkslayer killed with little help the stone giant lord, then to the Caverns of Chaos. I had found several altars and few herbs on the way. When I identified my equipment for the first time, I had first place in my amulet list an amulet of life saving, so I wasted no time, went through DH and saved the dying sage. Now I collected herbs, pickpocketed all skeletons on the surface graveyard level, sold everything I didn't need, sacrificed monsters until I was absolutely close to the neutral God, put on the amulet of order from the sheriff, waited a while and got precrowned with the nice "Protector" shield. So far I hadn't used weapons at all, so I decided to go to Darkforge to see if I could find a decent weapon there. I learned the Teleport spell, went quickly in and out again. There was only garbage, so I started to use the adamantinium battle axe of devastation which I had found somewhere before. I ended up using it through almost the whole game. I went to the Pyramide, the graveyard and to the Druid dungeon, checked the Water Dragon Cave (nothing there worth stealing) and the Puppy Cave, went to the Tomb of the High Kings and to the Gremlin Cave. And here my memory already leaves me. I'm not sure whether I went first to the Water Temple or to the ToEF. I think I did the tower first. I was Lv. 18 or 19, had no rings of Ice, but enough artifact and higher metal equipment that this was no problem at all. I had gotten the Frost Bolt book from the village druid, knew how to teleport, took all my bows and the few arrows of dragon slaying I had. I didn't have big problems since I was a Drakeling and didn't fight many monsters. I find it easy to do the ToEF with drakelings. The speed increase weighs much more than the little life loss, since there are enough Potions of Extra Healing available. I killed the Ancient Chaos Wyrm with arrows and Frost Bolts, picked up the Orb and left quickly. Then I went down to the Casino. There were no artifacts and no scroll of danger, which I was still looking for, but at least I found a pair of Seven League Boots. I went down to get the ring from the Cat Lord. On the level above the Cat Lord was a really great vault. I zapped a wand of monster detection and fled scared by all those yellow and grey Ls and purple Zs and Gs of several colours. That was the first Undead vault of half the level size that I have ever seen. Quite impressing. I went back to the surface to do the quests for the Medal of Chaos. I went to the infinite dungeon to not come back before I had found a scroll of danger. This took quite a while. I then dug up some graves to become chaotic, for once I found a giant boar skull relatively quick, and after I had the Medal, I went to get crowned. I made a stupid mistake here and got all my equipment cursed. If I would have thought a bit I would just have worn an amulet of order until I was neutral again, but I somehow thought it was faster to convert at the altar. Well, it was faster. I got crowned with the "Boots of the divine messenger". Then I descended further into the Caverns of Chaos, did the air and the earth temple, found a small red dragon vault and a really big red dragon vault, which I left for now, I was only Lv. 28 and my frost bolts wouldn't last long. Since I was already down there I went to get "Needle". I teleported from stair to stair to stair, teleported directly next to Srraxxarrakes and killed him with some effort and all my dragon slaying ammo. I went back to the surface with the plan to visit the library to find hopefully Frost Bolt Books. Sadly my seven league boots had been destroyed in the battle in the Blue Dragon Caves. I looked at the time and it was day 87, 3 days before the next Dark night. So I took the chance and went to kill Keriax before I did anything else. It was a difficult battle. I was already quite fast, but it didn't help much. I shot him with arrows and quarrels and he corrupted me quite badly with his breath attack. I almost wanted to give up for now, but then got the idea to throw a potion of confusion at him. This worked well and I killed him in melee. After this I was so badly corrupted that I wanted to do the white unicorn quest to remove all corruptions, but I was only Lv. 29, so I went to the Bug Temple, killed bugs partly with Fire Bolts and Burning Hand and partly with my axe. I didn't eat any bug corpses. Downstairs I smashed all statues, but left those killer bugs that didn't see me well alone. I couldn't pick up the wands due to corruption, so I had to come back later anyway. I scummed Darkforge a bit to finally get to Lv. 30 and killed the black unicorn. Among my vast array of corruptions I also had the ones neccessary for the quickling tree, so I wanted to do this first. Here I made another mistake. I just dropped all my inventory. Afterwards I had quite a lot of power points more and a heap of drained wands. But I couldn't have taken them with me anyway. I spent more than 100 days in the quickling tree and ate quickling corpses. Then I got all my corruptions removed and finally went to the library, spent some time there, read books, took the weird tome to the mad minstrel. Somewhere along the way I had found a ring of djinni summoning. The one and only wish in this game I spent on magical writing sets. I got 3 of them with 12 charges total. I wrote some more scrolls of education (I had already written some earlier in the game) and learned more skills. Monks never lose mana points when writing scrolls (status of writing sets and blank scrolls, ChLv and Mana value don't matter; I did some tests on this). Then I went back down, when I was done with all the red dragons and wyrms, I had reached Lv. 43. I found three artifacts there: skullcrusher, serpents bite and hammerhead. I never used them. On the way to the mana temple I got a surge of power on UL 5. Bran Hengis, the karmic baby dragon guarded the "Hammer of the Gods". The mana temple was not very difficult. Nuurag Vaarn fell to humanoid slaying ammo. I killed everthing else there also. I went back up. On D35 was still this untouched vault and I wanted to see what treasures where hidden there. I was confident, could teleport in case of emergency, some potions of youth were lying in the barbarians glade, so I thought, it could not hurt to try. So here is what I did: I did enough MagicMap Spells to know the level layout and zapped a wand of monster detection. Very well, there was a free space next to all the master liches and lich kings and the emperor lich, the rest of the huge room was filled with undeads. Equipped with an amulet of protection from undead, the boots of the divine messanger, the rune-covered trident, which had arrived by now, and undead slaying ammo, I teleported to this free space, and started killing liches. Making good use of the monk ability to switch places with hostile monsters, they all fell rather quickly. They couldn't summon much, since there was simply no room left. Then I teleported out of there and killed the rest from the corridors. One of the hidden Lich Kings had guarded the "Preserver" amulet, which was well worth the aging by 20 years and the one lost toughness point. Back out of the caverns of chaos I went to the assassin price, killed Filk on ID 12 (a cutpurse was my first kill), went to the mad minstrel and then to the scintillating cave, killed the Emperor Moloch without much difficulties with my axe, and got the red trident. I killed the assassin prince to get Sting, although I never used it. Then I remembered that I had not gone to the dwarven mystic yet, so I did and got 5 SoCR from him. Now I had 20 of them. I had not used many before. I sorted through my stuff and went down for the final dive. I was now at Ch.Lv 49. On D49 I got "Far Slayer" for the potion of uselessness. Veerry sloowwlyy I kicked my way through the wall to the down stairs. The walls on D50 were undiggable. No problems there, my speed was around 210. After everything there was dead, I put on the crown and medal of chaos, drank all boost stat and speed potions and went through the gate. The sad fate of my last drakeling monk, that had made it to this point, still on my mind, I took care to have enough paralyzation resistance this time. I read half of my scrolls of chaos resistance upon entering and shot Andor Drakan with all humanoid slaying ammo I had. He stood pretty stupidly 2 spaces away from me and zapped me with useless spells. All in all it was an easy game. Some times I came very close to dying, one time I was down to 1(!) HP before I noticed that I was not fighting a caveman but a doppelganger king. But luckily drakeling monks are quite robust. So I can advise anybody who has the same problem of getting very careless at times that I have, to try a drakeling monk.
