In the UD, I found a large tension room of gnolls, and one of them
threw a battle axe of devastation at me!  This weapon lasted the
entire game, and was still my favourite until I got the Trident.  I
also found a supply of herbs on UD:7, and by planting a few herb
seeds, I was able to move the herbs until that level had a source of
every type of herb.  This herb garden proved exceedingly useful,
especially once I had the special ability to pick the best herbs.

Hotzenplotz killed himself in a blind rage, so I missed out on the
amulet of order.  This was somewhat annoying, and caused me to turn
chaotic by accident in the Big Room, but luckily it didn't take long
to return to neutrality at the Dwarftown altar.

I had considerable trouble finding an amulet of life saving.  After
completing all the Dwarftown quests, clearing out the Gremlin Cave and
the TotHK, and draining the Darkforge pools until I was middle-aged
and out of potions of youth, I still had not found one.  I decided to
take my chances in the Tower, though I was not at all well equipped to
survive there.  Things got even worse when my crown of regeneration
melted away, and worse still when I got the very light corruption.  I
was contemplating leaving to train my Strength up a bit when I got
poison hands, and was forced to read my one and only SoCR, cleansing
both these awful corruptions.

I went on with the Tower a bit longer, zapping my wand of death
whenever a fire giant king appeared, until I found a helm of water
breathing.  I promptly fled this hellish tower, hoping that in the
water dragon's lair I might find something to improve my situation.  I
slew Blup's mum in the dark, which gained me SIX experience levels but
also dropped my alignment to C- (I don't know why, but since I wasn't
crowned yet, who cares?)  Her treasure hoard contained both a ring of
djinni summoning and a potion of youth - not only was I now able to
save Khelavaster, but after drinking the potion of youth, I went back
to the pools, and got a wish for the Concentration skill.

Things went much more smoothly from then on, until I lost four of my
five blessed SoCR to a blast of lightning in the blue dragon caves,
and later lost the one remaining SoCR to my own rebounding lightning
bolt, leaving me with just two potions of cure corruption against the
ubiquitous Chaos radiation.  I traded all my potions of booze in with
the fool, but he did not give me a single PoCC, so I went down to D:48
and polypiled rings, but to no avail.  I went ahead anyhow, but the
corrupting radiation on the Chaos Plane was just too much for me.
