Valowyn's story:

This was a random character. I was "scumming" for a nice sword-born dwarven 
weaponsmith when this female gnomish bard appeared. She started with a giant 
racoon (my personal favorite), more than decent stats and excelent skills. 
I had never even reached Dwarftown with a bard, so I tried it out. Man! She 
turned out to be my best PC so far.

As I mentioned, I am not experienced with bards, so I do not know if this one 
was extremely lucky or all bards tend to find such an exceptional equipement.

I use to write down every important achievement in an open Notepad window 
while I'm playing ADOM. I will past this text here:

Valowyn's diary:

- I arrived to the Drakalor Chain.
- VD: * A spellbook of Teleportation in VD:2! Good starting!
      * Garry, my giant raccon died when defending me against some pit vipers 
in VD:4.
      * In VD:5 the firs blink dog I kill leaves a corpse! This is what I call 
      * I'm in VD:6. I have DV/PV:19/1. Yrrigs will crush me: I'm going to the 
ID to raise these values.
- ID: I had to pray once, but I found what I was looking for: DV/PV: 21/6. 
That's better.
- Back to VD: Yrrigs quest done. I have Healing!
- PC done. Nothing relevant.
- I am a member of the thieves guild.
- I jurneyed to the CoC. 
      * The way to Dwarftown was quite smooth. The dwarven mystic gave me 4 
      1st quest: Slay an imp. I stayed in the huge cave for ~20 minutes and 
one appeared. Done. When I had all my items identified I noticed I had a ring 
of djinni summoning! I will keep it for now.
      2nd quest: Animated forest: done. It was somewhat difficult, thouhg I 
had DV:85 in coward tactics. When going back I quaffed a !oInv and it was 
cursed: I was blinded for many turns. I used Teleport to get out (I wonder why 
I didn't use it before :P ).
- I went to Lawenilothehl to get Detect Traps. I also killed Hotzenplotz.
- The Dwarven Graveyard. I had a tough time with Griff Bloodax. When I got out 
I was L16 and very close to L17, so I ran to the Pyramid.
- Pyramid done. I used up all the charges of the wand of fireballs.
- Back to the CoC:
      * 3rd quest: Ogre cave. Done.
      * 4th quest: Arena. done.
      * 5th quest: Greater daemon. Sacced.
      * I went to the lower levels to see if I found some better equipement.
      * I found Khelavaster. I used mi RoDS: amulet of life saving. I now have 
10 SoCR! I also found a black dragon scale mail in the same level!
      * CoC Graveyard: done.
      * A phase dagger!
      * Water Temple: done. It was easy: the SFB was blind in darkness (?). 
One of the chaos servants dropped a wand of destruction!!!
      * I found the heavy crossbow "Far Slayer" in an undead vault in D:22!
      * Banshee level done.
      * A construct vault! 2 exp levels and a mace of destruction! It well 
replaces Big Punch. In the same level a chaos knight dropped eternium sword, 
cap and boots.
      * I arrived to the wall of flames. It was a very nice and profitable 
excursion, ain't it?
      * Crowned in dwarftown: shock immunity and "Whirlwind". Damn, I hate 
- The Tomb of the High Kings.
      * A helm of Teleportation!!
      * I arrived to the tomb. Used a wand of cold. The SK confused me and I 
almost fell in the lake, but I recovered just in time (phew!). I used arrows 
of undead slaying.
      * I'm stuck! I can't go to the ToEF or darkforge because I lack a 
fireproof blanket...
- After staying some time in the TotHK I was bored and I decided to go to the 
- I have the Courage skill.
- I scummed the ID for a long time and... nothing. I decided to try the 
unremarkable dungeon. Before, I went to the PC because I needed an altar (I 
think I was cursed) and there's where the fireproof blanket appeared... Anyway, 
I went to the UD.
- With 2 blessed !oInv I passed the SMC. UD done (nothing relevant).
- I left all my stuff in the CoC and went to Darkforge:
      * Ha! Lightning ball rocks! I had learned it when I hit exp level 18 
(bards learn some random spells at L18). Some steel golems die in one 
      * The only interesting stuff found was an eternium spear and an eternium 
quarterstaff (useless for me).
- I went to the ToEF. It was unexpectedly easy. I killed the ACW with wands of 
cold and with Lightning Ball. I didn't stay to kill the rest.
- The final dive...
      * The Casino: I found the Hammer of the Gods. The bill: 1,484,719 gp. I 
left the Hammer of the Gods next to the stairs. Too heavy and useless.
      * Another construct vault! 2 exp levels. (now L35)
      * I have the ring of the master cat!
      * I reached a cavernous level, where I met a chaos warlord, a gorgon, a 
black unicorn, etc, so I fled instantly...
      * A giant slug corpse (acid immunity)!
      * Air Temple done. I killed Yuglash with Fire Bolts.
      * I have the mana battery corruption... I read a SoCR.
      * A red dragon vault! I advanced 3 exp levels! I've got Alchemy at 100. 
Recipe for PoGA: ! of strength and ! of boost speed. Later in the game I only 
could make one.
      * Stone Temple done. I killed the ASB with Lightning Balls.
      * A greater vault of giants! This is the first greater vault I wipe out. 
I had previously (with other PCs) found greater vaults of undead (which I 
always ignore) and once I found one full of karmic dragons. It was the doom of 
my promising barbarian... Snif... Well, I'm back :) I'm now exp level 50! I 
also found the useless scorched spear.
      * In D:47 I found another red dragon vault, but I decided to ignore it 
because I had 4 corruptions and it was day 83. I was hurried now.
- The Unreal Cave (UL). As usual, I have to rush because of the corruption rate.
      * Mana Temple done. I had 5 arrows of humanoid slaying but it wasn't 
enough for Nuurag-Vaarn. I finished him with (many, many) magic missiles.
- D:49. Uslessness gift: "Nature's companion". Not so useless...
- D:50. I made it! I used my wand of destruction. I had to kill some balors 
using quarrels of demon slaying. Fistanarius could't even touch me.
- The return: Now I could explore all the levels I left when I was hurried.
      * In the red dragon vault I found a RoDS: speed or strenth? I choosed: 
seven league bootss.
      * I dropped half of my useless stuff and at last could take off that 
blessed girdle of carrying and put on a girdle of strength +2.
      * UL again. A girdle of giant strength! Fortunately I did not waste my 
last wish in one... I returned to the mana temple to finish everyone.
      * I decided not to go to the dragon caves for now.
      * I digged up all the graves in the CoC graveyard, but I found nothing 
- The Library: done. (just for fun)
- Assassin's guild: done. I have got Sting.
- Water cave done. (I couldn't make it before because I lacked some means of 
water breathing).
- Blue dragon caves done. Shyssirryxius left his corpse! WOW! Awesome! Sharad- 
Waador gave me Needle and a RoDS!
- I entered the caves again: I found Skullcrusher! Too bad it's useless now... 
I also received the rune covered trident.
- I went to Lawenilothehl and killed Yergius.
- I left the Drakalor Chain.
