Zorrin was my first win.

A glorious essay is required for such an awesome achievement.

I played basically the most normal game possible, taking my time with planning,
gathering items and training more than seemed necessary to seal my victory.  I will
highlight the most interesting moments later, but first let me say something
about the awesome power of the Mindcrafter.

Mindcrafters have always been my favorite class, but in the past I was never
able to get one past experience level 20 before dying horribly.  Now that I
have finally raised one to level 50, let me just say that they can become
an unstoppable force.  Greater Telekenetic Blast + Teleport Self is an unstoppable
combo.  Using the two in combination, it is possible to dart around an opponent
(probably confused!) or group of opponents and whittle them away one by one,
regardless of how strong they might be.  Actually, whittle is a weak word, because
things will die quite quickly to GTB: Everything fell to GTB for me, including great
wyrms, a great moloch, the eternal guardian, the cat lord, and all of the orb
guardians except the Ancient Stone Beast, of course.  All of those mentioned took
less than 10 to kill, and most 5 or less.  The eternal guardian is the exception.
Bastard.  I never would have killed him, except that there was a fireball trap
generated right next to him.  Even with high "Detect Traps" and 100 "Alertness,"
the RNG did not deign to reveal its location to me, and thus I succumbed to a
short monotony of hit and run.

I also love Mental Wave when used in tandem with Confusion Wave.  I took
out a greater vault of karmics including almost twenty Great Karmic Wyrms without any
difficulty using this technique.  Teleport to the middle and wreak havoc.

But the most powerful move, in fact, is the lowly Confusion Blast. It totally
disables anything that it can affect, and it can affect just about everything.
It was quite worthwhile for Zorrin to use it on Chaos Beings, even with
corruption, because it ended up preventing a lot more corruption than the small
penalty.  It's kind of pathetic to watch an all-powerful, named wyrm bumbling
about in a confused panic.  Pathetic and satisfying.

Now, to Zorrin.  The early game went smoothly: Kranach, Jharod, Hotzenplotz,
puppy, early CoC.  He received "Serpent's Bite" for precrowning, which was used
briefly, but then got the ring of immunity for crowning.  It was at this point that
I thought he might have a chance.

I specialized in axes because I found an orcish axe of lightning (I think) in the
puppy cave or Big Room that was most effective.  I used shields because 'crafters
need as much DV as they can get, particularly in early stages of the game.  I
was happy to receive "Rolf's Companion" in the Dwarven Mystic's room, which I used
for the rest of the game.  I was hoping to find "Executor" somewhere, but these
things never happen.

Nothing too interesting until late-game, except that I got a huge scare with a
Berserker Emperor around D:25 who got me down from full HP to 1 HP in one hit.
On the next level I found a diamond golem, who proved a troublesome opponent as
I was without GTB at the time.  I was forced to dive into the ID to train until
level 30, afterwhich the aforementioned golem was history in 100 turns or less.
It was quite easy for me to slay ancient dragons and Great Wyrms with Confusion
Blast etc. in the ID.  I found a room full of quickling queens around I:45, though,
now that was scary.  Thank goodness for wands of teleportation.

ToEF and the other elemental temples were easy, except Mana Temple, because I had
amulets for both light and death ray resistance.  I first tried it with only death
ray resistance, which I now know is virtual suicide.  I barely escaped.  I was forced
to risk it without death ray resistance, and relied on GTB to finish the Archmage in
about 4 hits after luring him out of the temple with rocks from my sling.

I found "Preserver" in a greater vault of giants, which is awesome because of the
willpower bonus, and also "Hammerhead", which is not awesome.  The black tome was in
a vault of red dragons, which was annoying, and I guess the robes of resistance were
there too, but I never found them.  Pity.

I opted for a wand of destruction ending.  By the way, D:50 was *not* diggable for
me, and I ended up having to hack my way through hordes of chaos mutants/WMoPCs
because of it.
