1. Acquire bones.
2. Locate cute dog.
3. Kick cute dog.
4. Go to dungeon exit. Monsters won't attack cute dog, because it's hostile to you.
5. Give bones to cute dog until tamed.
6. Return to tiny girl.

I would like to know if somebody ever tried to use the cute dog as a companion? Slowly train him and than... I mean he never turns hostile (unless you attack him) like e.g. other tamed dogs.

You could train him I suppose, but it would mean you could never return to Terinyo.

Yeah. All that effort, and the bloody traitor dog just runs away in Terinyo. No respect.

It goes without saying you couldnīt take him to Terinyo but it is no problem, you can leave him in any dungeon for a while.

actually, for as many candies as you want, yeah? :P

problem: what if you're a monk?

And I donīt think it is so dangerous to leave the dog in a dungeon. IMO when you leave a level no big things happen there (maybe none).

Taz: if you're on cowardly tactics, the dog should still survive a monk's kick.

THe dog quest gives a nice bonus to your score (10 000 if I remember right), and is a nice challange (can you get past those ants in the first 3 days?).

Instead of kicking the cute dog, you could zap it with a harmless stun ray. As far as I know, this isn't even a chaotic act.

Its a very clever idea, but truth is I've never had much difficulty keeping it alive once found. Finding it always kills me.

Actually, there's an even easier way to do it.

You can leave that cute dog anywhere, and go back to get it, once you generate it as alive on the level and it sees you. That makes it easier to get the dog upstairs, because you can wait until later in the game, when you're more powerful, to retrieve the dog and babysit it on the way up. Especially nice because you can wait to get that Lawful boost until you need it.

I'm not sure, actually, if the dog even has to see you in order not to die while you wait to level up to a decent level. Do you just need to generate the level? SSRT...

you probably only have to generate the level cuz the dog will be generated alive. but until you see the dog, you can't be sure it'll be killed before you find it. i've had the dog generated inside the vault.

And btw it does not work so well. I kicked the dog and he turned hostile. Monster didnīt attack him. Then I moved to dungeon exit. Gave him about 35 bones - and I usually dontīt have that many of bones in the first 3 days. But still he was hostile. So I left him on that level (only thanks to a teleport trap, he is quite fast) and tried to collect another bones. Reurned few minutes later to that level - he was killed, obviously by a monster which was hostile also to me.

Oh . . . sorry about that. It does seem to have varying efficacy. The first time I tried it, he turned tame with only 6 bones, but last time he took 18 and was still hostile.

When I try to tame a dog,I usually give it a bone one at a time.I dunno.I think the game thinks '35' bones as only '1',if you give them all directly.Hey,it's a theory.

Also, if you're cursed and/or doomed, it naturally is harder to tame anything. i gave ~ 30 bones to a blink dog for no effect while wearing crown of science.

Regarding Iridia's pondering: Taz is right, you only have to generate the bottom level of the puppy cave. It's what I use often as my tactic, I get down, generate the level and leave, because I often descend the puppy cave as fast as I can and arrive at the bottom level at a very low level. Then I go do the carpenter quest and return after that to retrieve the puppy. Nothing happens on a dungeon level when you're not on it.

Actually, I do the same thing with SMC, I jump in at level 1 to generate goblins and kobolds of a low level there, but I descend the UD only after rescuing the puppy and the carpenter.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

i always do that with the SMC, first place i go when i leave terinyo.
when i'm going for teh puppy quest, i either gain as few levels or as many levels as possible. if i gain enough levels before i reach the big open level then it shouldn't be too hard to make it out with the puppy. but that brings my level above 6, so kranach will have gone away.

One of the few remaining advantages of Trolls :) They NEVER level up.

but kranach leaves once trolls get a number of experience points instead of levels.

I have only found a cute dog corpse when I've done the quest. I wonder how you keep it alive?
