I prefer weapons of penetration, though those are harder to find. They usually have better damage, and don't give the annoying message that Phase daggers do when you attack someone

phase daggers can be wished for, other penetrating weapons can't; that's the advantage =)

They have nice damage dice, don't rust, and you can smack around jellies with them

Phase daggers are considered "special weapons" and cannot have any prefix or suffix.
Crystal daggers, stone spears/axes, whips of snake/slaughtering, maces of destruction/distruption, swords of sharpness - all are "special weapons". (This category I made up, but we have to have a name for the weapons with no suffixes and prefixes possible, right? :P )

A mace of disruption has some extra effect against undead, I think it is a chance to instakill them, but it may be extra damage or extra critical hit %. I'm pretty sure it's a chance to instakill undead.

READ it weilding your Blessed Rustproof phase dagger (+9 1d4+7), forget all your 'foo slaying,
the dagger is AMAZING, Steel golums in 1 or 2 hits, dragons in 1, <this is with a gnomish priest strength 32> these and any sword of penetration <same rules apply>, just have to worke up the skill

Maces of Distruption have "Slays Undead" - it's the only non-artefact weapon with slaying (not counting rabit knife - who's interested in slaying battle bunnies? :P )

Besides a knife specialist? :) Those actually do come in handy; since I often train for the twins I'll keep a couple around for the bunny level.

Playing 5 barbarians in a row. Thinking: why not try a beastfighter for a change? Wicked E2HS in the SMC. Fuck.You.RNG.

BTW, I want a wicked large eternium hammer of devastation. Screw penetration and critical hits and all that crap, 9d10+10 damage, now that's wicked indeed :D
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

i've never found a really good penetrating weapon, but that's prolly because once i find a nice artifact weapon i don't bother to pick up and identify all the other weapons i find.

which is the best out of brutal/wicked/murderous anyways? which one that does most damage that is.

the best suffix is of devastation i am quite sure. if you mean damage-wise once again. otherwise i think i'd prefer of penetration as the extra 4 damage die doesnt do as much when you advance in levels and weaponmarks and get really high +damage.

What do you guys think would be the absolutely coolest/best non-artifact weapon? (not counting "special weapons" either)

J., wicked large eterinium hammers of devastation would be 6d13, not 9d10 ("wicked" adds to the sides of diece used, not the number of dice).

Murderous is the *BEST* prefix for a weapon, since it increases the chances for critical hits (just like bloody daggers, axe of the minotaur emperor, Serpent's Bite and a few others). With find weakness and some other increases (ie. braces of war, Ring of the Master Cat) it gives more bonus then Vanquisher (which slays only the listed thingies, but does nothing against bugs, animals and some other enemies).
Murderous eterinium spear of devastation or Murderous eterinium halbred of devatation would be my choice.

Why would you be worried about bugs and animals? In Bugville just use spells... and animals are pushovers.

I wouldn't take a halberd; the bonuses you lose from the shield don't make up for it. A spear, though, or a longsword... hm.
