After an absence from this game I've started playing again, and after an absence from this forum I'm gonna start posting again.
One thing I've never finished in my ADOM career is ultra ending so that's what I'm set to do.

My mind is set on a dark elf bard and I'm scumming candle to ease things up a bit (no need to get healing, able to get treasure hunter and heir so I can start with slb). I've tried some times but haven't gotten that far yet.

I also got some kind of strategy figured out and I know what is required. But more tips would be appreciated, I might have forgot something.

*Druidquest so I can use black torc as ratling food (is it possible to enter VD7 on low lvl so the druid spawns at low lvl then reenter later at higher level to kill him easily?)
*Wait with reward from puppy to change alignment easier later on.

That's about the only things I can think about that make the whole thing much easier. I haven't played much bard either so tips on that class would be nice also. So far all chars have died before lvl 16 (I plan to lvl up to that lvl in ID before doing pyramid and then diving into CoC).

You can indeed spawn the druid on low level and come back for him when you're buffer - it also doesn't generate the artifact till he's killed, so it doesn't interfere with precrowns. The same tactic is good to use on the SMC too to make all enemies there level 1.

Bards can get a lot of luck, and are especially nice if you have good starting skills. Early on they're weak though, so you're best forgetting about the puppy quest and gaining your first 8 levels on DD 1 and 2. Only venture further when you feel it's safe. After you get some good PV and a decent weapon you'll have a much easier ride with them.

Yea, I started a rather promising bard the other day, got an awesome starting skill set, only to die about 200 turns in to a stone block trap. Not fun.

Okay I have a really promising gray elf wizard clvl 16. Ive raided dark forge, done the pyramid, druid quest, puppy cave, gone through ud. 3 neutral altars and 1 chaotic altar in total generated so far, also robbed a spellbookstore somewhere in ud.

In ud I have pacified two levels with one patch of stomafillias and one patch of morgia, I've already gotten dx to 27 with moss I found randomly in herb squares I couldn't utilize.

I already have wand of monster creation and a scroll of danger. Since I've never done an ultra ending before I need some help.

My plan now is to get to dwarftown as N+ and hope for socr, change alignment to C using a chaotic altar in druid cave, get rothk and then try to save khelevastar. I have black torc, serpents bite and crown of science to feed the ratling so far. Do you need the rothk after you've gotten eg away? Otherwise I'll use that as ratling fodder also.

If I don't get any wish I'll try to drain the pools in darkforge for wish.

Oh yeah just found slbs in a vault on d5 so no need to worry about that anylonger. The earlier I feed the ratling and get the quests from gaab the better right?

Edit: Pacified big room with spenseweed patch.

the main problem with ultra's you need to save stupid sage.

that can be very annoying. darkforge pool, gravediging and water dragon cave might help...
or not.

good luck

Thanks, I've tried gravedigging enough times not to try it again, it seems like I always get an emperor lich. What's the danger level of rods? Was thinking if nothing else works I'll do either ID or run around in rothk cavernous levels.

Looking good... What's your toughness score? Got a good game plan for the Tower? That should be more immediately worrying than ultra ingredients...

Which flavour of ultra are you aiming for? The general reason to satisfy the ratling and old crone early is so changing alignment isn't any trouble later. This is especially important for ULEs since it can be a lot of hassle getting up to L+. Also neutrals and lawfuls can get crowned earlier if they complete the chaotic quests first (chaotics have to wait until they get the trident to get crowned).

Got a PoCC from the druid yet? If not then save your neutrality to get that (guaranteed one from the ACW corpse for instance). Also for changing alignment I recommend luring dwarven children up or down the stairs and killing them - much safer than playing with altars.

The RotHK is not needed after making the EG bugger off, so feel free to feed the ratling with it then. Elemental gauntlets I also find to be lacking in use after the Tower, and sword of nonnak is an option. Don't forget to get the phial of caladriel either - it's easy to hand over. Crappy casino artifacts are another possibility.

If going for a ULE, it might be handy to convert
a couple of those altars to L now, while your
alignment is easy to change. You might find a
use for them later.

It would be fun to go for a lawful ending, the tower has never been any problem at all for me, I got more than enough charges of ice ball, frost bolt and stun ray for acw, got a rdsm in darkforge so firedmg won't be any problem at all. My toughness will be 30 soon, I'm farming spenseweed and training stat with morgias in big room atm.

I'll have in mind that I should convert altars to L, amulet of order should fix that rather easy after dwarftown, maybe I should enter dwarftown L to get the altar there lawful, then kill a dwarf child to get to N+.

A visit to gremlin cave doing some pickpocketing for rods/pocc/artifacts might be a solution also. Then I can grab the potion of caladriel.

Edit: My stats atm are 19 st, 28 le, 32 dx, 26 to (got enough morgias and devil roses to get 30), 10 ch, 18 ap, 37 ma, 22 pe.

Also have 3 poga, 2 pole and 1 poma at the ministrel.

Edit2: While getting 30 to I now have 20 st and 40 ma :)

Edit3: I just noticed I don't have any fireproof blanket.

Edit4: The altar in dwarftown is lawful and the mystic gave me 4 socr.

You can't get much good stuff in the gremlin cave unless you rad a scroll of dagner there. If you want to make a gremlin bomb for a RoDS to save Khelly then bring a fluff ball to the dwarven graveyard.

Unfortunately entering the level on which the black druid resides causes the Black Torc to be generated. I did it with a character who sadly perished (or quit?) shortly afterwards and the artifact was on the record.

I have done it before and the black torc was not generated - I know full well because I relied on this fact for precrowns.. Just tested in fact - went to DD7, Keethrax generated, quit and there was no torc in the flg. This is the same with the orb guardians too.

Converting a N altar to L is easy. I think
3,000 gold should do nicely, but more wouldn't
hurt. If you convert a C alter to L, I advise
spacing out the conversions. Trying for two
back-to-back conversions, can screw up your
own alignment, and maybe anger a diety.

You probably won't need more than two L altars.
Use the non-dwarftown altar first, and if it
converts to N, then try the one in dwarftown. That
should keep the priest from going insane on you.
If memory serves, saccing gold at L altars, will
not get you to L+. You will still have to whip
yourself, heal pets, or something to get L+.

YAY! A chaos spawn (I think) in the first level of the high king tomb yielded an ordinary ring, and yes it was a rods!!!

I tried converting a neutral altar in druid cave to lawful but it got me back to NL from L :/ Good thing is though I've sacrified enough stomas to both N and L god for them both to be very close (converted back to L again and I'm wearing the amulet of order to try to get to L+).

Done gremlin cave and gotten the phial, still no fireproof blanket/roi though. I'm thinking I might do the minotaur maze, it will yield me both 2 pocc and a post, post + poboost speed = poga, not very fun recipe but well well. Don't think the minotaur maze will be any problem calculating top trap type having lots of charges magic map and a telebook + tpcontrol. The reason I want to get a pocc from minotaur maze rather than orb guardian corpse is that I'm really low on holy waters....

Dipping plain blankets in poex might yield fireproof blankets no?

Next time I try to convert altar I'll wear amulet of balance btw.

First dwarfquest was a goblin so that was no problem at all, this game is really being gentle to me, I'm thinking I meet something awful soon.

Edit: No need to convert any altars, found lawful altar on d11. Still no cat kill also, I've never gotten rotmc before.

> I tried converting a neutral altar in druid cave to lawful but
> it got me back to NL from L :/

For an exp. level 17 PC, ~3000 gold should have
done the trick. Out of curiosity, how much gold
did you sac?

> still no fireproof blanket/roi though

Have you finished the dwarf quests yet? Usually
you recieve a fireproof blanket, for doing the
'arena champion' quest. The RoI is a luxury for
a gray elven wizard, you don't really need it.
If you have the right spell list, you can get
through the ToEF easily, with just the blanket
and fireproof gear.

> I'm thinking I might do the minotaur maze

You have to be at exp. level 22 (I think), to
get in there, but I think it's kind of dangerous
at that exp. level. It can be done, of course,
but you could lose your PC, if you get over
confident. Some of the minotaurs are quite
powerful. I advise training the 'stun ray' spell
before going in, and using it heavily once in.
Stun ray and web are great against all minotaurs,
even the mages, and the emperor himself.

> Dipping plain blankets in poex might yield fireproof blankets no?

It's a possibility, but I think it could just
as easily turn into any other tool.

I did the dwarfquests and got the fireproof blanket, done water temple with great ease (invisible+darkness). The toef fell to frost bolt and the acw and his companions to ice ball and stun ray, annoylingy nonnak+water orb gives me 47 willpower. Tried a go at the minotaur maze but after 2 corruption traps and my first corruption I remembered why I hate it, my chaos god char got three corruptions in there.

Gained from clvl20 to clvl24 clearing the top level of toef so now I'm headed to feed the ratling, one thing that bothers me alot is the really really slow advancing of climbing, the library with its spellbooks and socr would be awsome.

The day is 77 so I hope getting a boar skull won't be that much problem, have neither foo of hunting or food preservation, farmer corpse can be annoying also. Also found a blue metal cap in toef so I'll see if water cave have any goodies in it, though I will be very very cautious with the water dragon since it can do sick dmg.

Edit: I almost had to lure down the whole dwarftown to get to chaotic, a total of 8 dwarves, 5 dwarven children and 9 dwarven guardian fell to my frost bolts on the levels below and above.

Got the skull on second boar and the farmer corpse on the first farmer, everytime I've tried chaos/ultra ending I've gotten farmer corpse on first farmer kill so the regeneration must be greatly increased with that quest.

The bad part is I hit day 90 before getting the boar skull, so I'm on day 100 now. I'm only lvl 24 so I'm thinking about getting to L+ and getting crowned right now, hows the best way to do that? Only have some 110k gold but I was thinking of getting to NC via the altar in dwarftown then summoning a pet in toef and healing it while wearing amulet of order, any clues on gold amount to get to NC safely?

Stashed the medal at ministrel in his little house locking the door with magic lock.

Edit: Used altar in dwarftown and 10$ apiece sacrifices and are now LN.

Climbing can be increased easily by theoretical training with Yergius and then just wandering about mountain squares. You need about 100k gold for a crowning - if you're worried about getting more then you should have easy access to the casino now. If you use a pet to get to L+ then make sure it's a good one, otherwise it won't last too long in the Tower. Don't worry too much about the 90 day limit - with the bug temple and library scrolls, and the unicorn reward, corruption shouldn't be too much of an issue. Just remember not to stick around in corrupting areas too much - only do whatever you have to do.

Yergius died a long long time ago, iirc it was because there were two good offensive spellbooks in the shop that I wanted but couldn't afford without killing him :/ I'm currently whipping myself to get to L+, guess I'll spend some time in the mountains after that to get 100 climbing.

In the casino atm, loads of nice spellbooks and some really needed demon slaying ammo for emperor moloch, nothing else of interest, not gonna buy the only artifact in there, whirlwind.

Yep, it's bandit and I've killed 16 of them so far. Well my progress now is I've done the rift, bug temple, air temple and 1½ greater vaults. One was giants and the second undead, since the undead one is shaped like a square in the middle I only cleaned everything around it, but now that I have improved fireball I'm thinking of clearing it by distance. Only clvl28 and I feel like I need some levels before I take on earth temple.

Only interesting artifact I've gotten in this progress is wyrmlance, have 18 socrs and 3 corruptions.

Edit: Guess I don't have to worry about corruption anylonger, just found a wowi 4 charges in a minor red dragon vault on d45.
