What was your first system?

Mine was an Atari 800 that my uncle programmed. I had 3 boxes of disks full of games. I learned to read with the Atari and it holds a special place in my heart.

Does anyone know of a simple Atari 800 emulator? I also need ROMs. respond in "Emulation"

If you don't count the pre-nintendo cartridge gaming systems, my first computer was a C64...

Then I got an A500 that was in active use up untill I finaly started to find some deacent games coming out that would run on my (had a 286 for a long while too, and with the exception of Star Controll II (great game!) I only realy used it for homewok (never got a printer for my Amiga)) 486 PC... In those days the Amiga version of most games still bad better graphics and sound than the PC counterpart (Duck Tales, Final fight, Moonstone for example where far superiour on the Amiga). But once games started coming on 15+ floppies it just got to tiersome without a HD (think Indiana Jones: Fate of Atlantis came on 25 disks and was HORREBLY slow on my A500, and the Pc version had speech to boot.)

As do I.

What is the first game system you ever remember owning?

My first game (that I remember) was either Snookie or Bristles for the Atari. It might have been Pitfall 2, Hero, Montezuma's revenge, or Miner 2049er too. They were all on the same disk (I actually still have some of my disks in storage so...)

My first computer was a Tandy color computer with a 6809E processor and 4k (not megs) of ram. The OS used up 2k of that. It ran at a blinding .7mhz and had a cassette recorder for storage.

486?... those things even exist anymore? ;)

I was eight when I got my first computer so I don't remember what it was.... but I do recall it had no hard drive, ran on 5" floppies, and had an attached keyboard...

I have my old 100 Mhz 486 too, I've installed Linux on it to try and learn a bit about that OS, but I don't have one of those handy computer switchers so I can rarely be bothered to swap around the mouse, ketboard and screen when I want to dable a bit in Linux so it's been months since I last booted it up...

Have a Linux/Win98 dual boot on my laptop too, but the Linux version I installed seem incapable of detecting the laptop's keyobard properly so that one is not beeng used eiter (only work when I boot in runlevel 1, and that's like running Windows in safe mode all the time)...

I'm drifting off topic though...

On the topic of "old" systems, check this one out!
