i think the last 4 or 5 surges of power ive gotten have been the black tome, i cant remember the last time i found a good artifact, is there some factor im not aware of that always makes it the black tome or what? does anyone else get this? |

It's simply a very "cheap" artefact, so it's usualy one of the first random ones you find. Whirlwind is also quite common, but far more usefull... Jan Erik Mydland HoF admin |

I can! It was two days ago! :P (I found only 5 Surge-artefacts, and that was the fifth :P) I usually find the tome in some shop, so it's safe and non-frustrating. A pessimist sees a dark tunnel. An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel. A realist sees a train. And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks. |

I remember getting like 15 surge artifacts but they were all on different characters on like level 2 or 1 of the puppy cave but i was quickley killed every time "The greatest obstacle obstructing the advancement of the human race, is the human race." |

I just got pre-crowned for the first time in 1.1.1 and I got the BLACK TOME. I am not happy! The best thing is poor fellow is illiterate (wouldn't read it anyways but still...) and dwarftown too far. Had to leave it there. "Faugh!" snorted Tahngarth. "Why would it make a meal out of something like you?" Squee looked relieved. "No," he continued, "you'd make a much better toothpick." |

I got emerald dagger from a surge of power - great left-hand weapon for a winning char :). Got also the black tome, and sacced it. |

i had a hurtling thief precrowned with BoWar, and got sepent bite from a surge of power soon after, dropped all my stuff on altar and the damn game crashed. i so almost cried. What do you Wish for?_ |

In my last somewhat successful game (which I refered to in my ARGHH thread) I got Hammerhead of a surge of power in first level of ToEF. If it's somplace you'd like to get that, it's there =) |

I think I've only got 2 surges, and one was the black tome in puppy cave. I first thought it was really cool, but then I realized it really just delayed my first precrowning, so I was mad. It was guarded by "Yul, the least demon" It sure sounds important if they have LEAST DEMONS to guard it. Other surge was the robes of resistance. I think I get way more artifacts from random monsters. Ring of immunity, Skullcrusher, and Protector twice. Maybe more, that's all I remember |
