I thought I would put this in a separate thread.

How do you raise your stats? (Which stats do you concentrate on?)

Which skills do you specifically train? (How?)

Actually I havent had too much luck training with the weaponsmith. Any idea how much time it takes for the stat to increase? I always start with strength but it seems to increase more due to the burdened/strained status than training...
Any idea how many spellbooks/spells to raise LE/MA, I havent noticed any increase when playing wizards, though I havent really played long and I dont usually concentrate on any stat except strength until I get Strength of Atlas that is :)

I don't know try paying the weaponsmith money you win from the casino, as much as the char. can carry.

The more money you pay, the faster your stats will increase. The amount of money also depends on how high your stats already are. The higher your present stats, the higher the amount of pay in order for the training to take effect. =)

I think it's not the weaponsmith(well you can learn smithing from him) you all mean but someone a few rooms to the west from the smith:) IIRC in the newest version training with this weirdo named Garth is more expensive/less effective with higher stats. Oh and C forgot to mention toughness in his list.(so he can train all your stats except Ap and Ma)

But still try to wear that blessed girdle of greed and go win a few million billion $ and you might get a few increases:)

You can also train stats with herbs. Eating morgia roots trains To(2 at a time) and Wi(4 at a time) up to about 25. Same goes for 'u'sing(2 at a time) moss of marelion, it increases dex to about 25. Be careful that you don't use cursed mosses, for they decrease your dx instead; this is not so with morgia roots they can be whatever status.

If you've got a pick axe and gemology you can dig crystals of knowledge. When you 'u'se them blessed they increase your Le up to about 25.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

Yeah, I gave him $1,000,000 to train toughness, which was at 34 I think, and it didn't increase at all. I trained other stats at the same time and I saw them go up, but To didn't go up with them, so there's no chance I missed it or anything.

you can train strength by being burdened, that's a good one to do. learning is really shady imo, i just had a character die that found 10-15 spellbooks in the ID within 20 min or so but his learning didn't move a point. i've had characters move up 4-5 points of learning beofre lvl 15 withot reading near that many. reading the scroll of warning from the SMC seems to help train literacy, but you can only read it in the cave over and over. mana, is best gotten by casting tons of spells and eating kobold shamans if you can cure disease. even so, in the new version sickness doesn't kill you so if you're near the exit to a cave just stand outside for a week or so. toughness and willpower and dex is obvious, but not that easy. morgia or athletics trains good. nothing makes me happier than finding morgia or stoma or spensweed (i just recently found out how awesome blessed spenseweed is) growing stable. use druids!!! they find tons of herbs and start with survival and gardening and such. perception is easy to train, just go around percieving things, meaning, the black/unknown area in towns and such. and carrot juice, i heard using the carrot juice in the rooms that say "smells like carrots" only works once. i know in the new version you can do it at least twice, i did in the same room and it boosted me 5 for uncursed and 10 for blessed. the main thing with training stats is STAY ALIVE!! haha good advice huh? but none of it matters if your ass gets smashed by a stone block.

Sickness can still kill you. Sometimes when your sickness ends you get the 'one last major fever attack' or something like that and if you're a weak char like a wizard it can kill you on low level. Also when you're drinking from pools you might get insanely high sickness score of which the last major fever thingy can deal a couple of hundred points. I had that kind of sickness once(in 1.0.0 I think) where the 'you are wracked by feverish fists' messages did 30-40 or so damage a piece. It killed me when it ended.

Speaking of sickness...I found this odd way to increase your mana points. You will need a blessed alrunia antidote.

Eat a kobold shaman. You get sick and your manna increases (sometimes) and then eat your herb.

Love them herbs!!

It's not really that odd, you can also get mana increases from other corpses of some creatures that use magic.

Oh and alraunia antidote cures poison and the herb you're thinking of is curaria mancox.
