Bridge Building has to be the most boring skill ever devised. Who the hell wants to carry around tons of logs? Which is why I always play spellcasters.

Woodcraft just helps cut down the time to cut down the trees to cut up into logs to cut up into bridge pieces. Oh, and it can be trained by attacking the trees in the animated forest...

Rhino69 - from the forest. Wilderness. Carried all logs I could (Strained! status) to the fishie lake, dropped them all, came back to the forest, got some more logs, and so on, until i got 'bout 50 logs in the cave. Used up most of them to make a 4-section long bridge ;P

Damnit! I just typed out a fairly big post with suggestions to make getting the logs down there easier and when I hit submit it came up with an error page. (Connection reset by peer.) When I clicked back my post was gone. Grrr...

Anyway, here's a shorter version:

1)If you have teleport control, create teleport traps near the stairs in the dungeon before the tomb.

2)Use Orb of Fire and blessed girdle of carrying to carry more logs at once.

teleport control is something you get from: items (ring of teleport control for example), blink dog corpses (lawful creatures...), pools (risky), class abilities (mindcrafters can control teleporting since lvl 1)

Yeah, if you're not a mindcrafter, the best way imo is to eat a blink dog corpse. Rings of TC are great, but hard to find as are the artifacts that give TC. As Maelstrom said pools are risky. Personally I generally avoid them unless I need a wish.

Blink dogs aren't too hard to find. Attack a non-hostile one if you're lawful, you should stay lawful unless you're on L- already, but be careful not to kill it straight away. Once you have a hostile blink dog attacking you, use coward tactics and wait for it to summon help. Then switch back to your preferred tactic setting and start killing them. If enough blink dogs are summoned, there's a good chance one will leave a corpse. The food preservation skill helps here.

I wouldn't recommend trying this until you're about level 10 or so however, as multiple blink dogs can be hard to deal with for low lvl chars.

Yes - you can cook with fire spell (fireball, firebolt) or you can go to the Great Big Microwave - The ToEF and drop food there; it will be cooked after some time.

Gems have LOTS of uses (specific ones) look at the "Dedicated Gems" topic. The usefull ones are (after you ID them) desribed as Crystals of -insert something-

If you are unlucky enough to be unable to find a blink dog that will leave a corpse, but are lucky enough to have a spare wish, you could always wish for a blink dog corpse. ;)

Always when finding a blink dog for the first time don't kill it before it has summoned more blink dogs and never kill them all untill you've got a corpse. And it's a good idea to get some spare corpses and sell them at stores in case you lose your teleport control because of drinking from a pool or something.

And correct me if I'm wrong but I think teleport doesn't work in the tomb of the high kings, kind of like in the temples.

What I meant when I brought up teleportation was that using it is a good way to get down to the tomb level quickly while Strained! with lots of logs, not that you could or should use it to get into the actual tomb room.
