It's Cat Lord, not king. And he is on D:34 or D:35 I think.

So you probably still have a long long time to kill many many cats before you meet him.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

*shudder* He's really bad if you kill a lot of cats. He scratched my troll to death once... *sniff* First and last time I have gotten so far. It was three years ago, I think.

"Faugh!" snorted Tahngarth. "Why would it make a meal out of something like you?" Squee looked relieved. "No," he continued, "you'd make a much better toothpick."

And in the new versions he might resist death ray, at least some uniques have got that resistance in the new versions.

Why not? You get a few free levels for killing cat lord when he's really strong after those hundreds of cats you've killed. It's a choice. One thing less to worry about.

Yeah, sometimes even about 10 levels :).

Exp or a kick-ass ring. The choice is yours. You can also be killed by the furry bastard if you're not careful ;).

Offhand I'd say its [0,+5] (Dx+16) (Sp+16) very good at scoring critical hits and something else. I've never got it as I've never got that far in the game.

I'm now playing a troll barbarian and I'm hoping to encounter many many cat vaults and tension rooms and anything (like my last druid did).

It's a really annoying thing- if you kill a cat, the cat Lord is hostile, so he won;t change into the ring.
If you have the ring and kill a cat - it explodes (doing about 200-400 fire damage IIRC, maybe even more)

Once you have the ring however, there is a work-around: If you kill a cat and you aren't wearing the ring(i.e. it's in your backpack),then it doesn't explode.Just remember to take it off before slaughtering a cat...'laughs insanely'
Note: That was how it was in ADOM V.1 anyway. It might have been changed in a later version however.Haven't had the chance to experiment.

You mustn't kill any cats. Wild cats, cave tigers and cave lions count as cats(all the monsters that look like f). Also when you've got the ring it explodes if you kill a cat.

Damn... I managed to get the ring with my dark elven elementalist (once again) and I was very happy. :) Then I met a cat and of course my fingers get evil and I send the cat to the deepest abyss and the ring decided to explode... I was so angsty after that... ;_;

Nevertheless, the ring doesn't do 200-400 fire damage when it explodes as Maelstrom said. I think it does 50 or something like that. Or at least it did to me... Damn fingers!...

You had fire resistance, right? It decreases the damage you take from the explosion.

Oh, of course... Then characters should have fire resistance if they are wearing the ring or one evil finger can destroy him. Kinda dangerous that ring, isn't it.
