When you get this result from smithing, does it mean your item is maxxed out on bonuses, at least where it tried to place them this time? Also: what items can be smithied for IMPROVEMENT? (not repair) --<>||<>-- |

Item suggestion : I improved my blessed eternium plate mail from (-1, -2) [+0, +12] to (-1, -2) [+5, +16] with a lot of smithing and pieces of eternium ore. |

It's been a while since I last used smithing but IIRC even after you get the message about your best effort, the item can still be improved but it's unlikely and gets even more very unlikely every time. I believe every item that gives +DV/+PV and is recognized by your metallurgy skill to be made of iron/mithril/adamantium/eternium can be improved by ignots of the same material (not artifacts or course). This even includes some rings (=oMentalStability at least, =oSpeed too?) so try to use smithing on them also! If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. Duh! How'd I not mention weapons? Stupid me. If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.
