Well there's savefile scumming which is just copying the savefile and pasting it in another place and there's level scumming, but Thomas has created anti-level scumming features into 1.1.0 and later, but basicly level scumming is where you drop you stuff the you want to duplicate on the level, leave and copy the tmpdat files, which is located in the adom_dat folder, paste them somewhere else, go back and collect your stuff and leave again then overwrite the tmpdat files with the ones you copied earlier and go back into the level and hey presto! There they are again! I recommend you create a new character to practice with first otherwise you might stuff it up (or I might have told incorrect instructions). It sounds complicated but it's really not. Should I eat it or make it my undead slave? |

Scumming is also a term for repetitive in-game activity, like staying in the Infinite Dungeon until you find an item you want, or hanging out on a level with herbs until you've harvested tons of them. |

Does it really matter if someone cheats? It's a single player game and they aren't affecting anyone else. |

That's true, it doesn't affect anyone but, you know there's some kind of fulfillment if you finish the game without cheating. =) I haven't won since gamma versions, but those were easier. |

When reading this post, insert the words IMO(in my opinion) into the beginning of every sentence. Scumming is what Ekaterin said. For example: scumming the infinite dungeon, scumming the blue dragon caves, casino scumming and (esp. in previous versions) scumming bug temple for bug corpses. Or in old versions, mining CoK's to raise your Le to 99 and then drinking PoE. So scumming is taking advantage of in-game advantages and is NOT cheating. Oh and taking advantages of bugs in the game is cheating. Save-scumming is not really scumming, it's cheating for it is something that you can't do in the game. And messing with the temp-files is downright cheating and not scumming. You can also use programs to cheat with ADOM(for example wadomf in g16pr2). If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. " I know, that's why I don't cheat. :) I was just wondering why eL is so upset that people cheat in a single player game. |
