I just got this error (naturally with a promising character) while dropping a single iron ingot with the command that lets you select multiple items to drop them. Maybe the object has something to do with it... as it is, I am probably never going to pick up ingots again :)

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the extended drop command <Ctrl-c> is the culprit rather than what you are trying to drop....but I might be mistaken on this one.

I've got Win95 and get 291s occasionally. On the r.g.r.a there was a post a while ago from someone that said that he had a copy of a savegame which could be crashed by using the extended drop on some ignots, so it really might be that they are bugged.
