Could someone tell me a step by step procedure in order to get a picture of something off the internet to put in my profile? Or at least a picture from real life that I've scanned? Kyp Durron |

Locate a picture you want to use, or upload one of your own pictures to a webserver (you need a web-page acount somewhere for this). Then you copy the exact URL of the picture (right click on a picture and select "properties" in IE to see it's URL (location), in Netscape I believe there is an option to copy immage location when you right click on it so use that. Once you have copied the immage URL into your clipboard go to the forums, logg in and click on the "Edit acount" link. Then paste the URL for the immage you want to use into the "Avatar immage" field and submit the changes. The immage will automaticaly be resized and squeezed/stretched to fit into the allocated space, so make sure you pick an immage that at least roughly match the default size and shape (50 pixels wide 70 pixels high)... It works for me if I open the picture directly first... Some ISP's will prevent you from linking to your immages from external sites. That might be the reason for the immage not loading (because the URL is corrent, I typed it in and looked at the picture, and when I got back to the forum it was working (because now I have a session at your ISP's computer). Try shopping around for another ISP that doesn't prevent you from linking to your pictures, it doesn't have to be good or offer much space, just use it to store picutures and such you want to use for things like this... Well other than the old Xoom service and "this" place I don't realy know much about free ISP's. Just sign up at http://www.brinkster.com for example, as you might have noticed the servers are not always the fasterst around, but it schoud be more than enough to host a picture and you can always take advantage of the ASP options while you are at it... Kyp Durron: You are trying to link from your own compuer (file:///N:/MyWork/General%20Files/Pictures/tn_anhcareful_jpg.jpg), that doesn't work. You'll have to upload the picture to a WEB server and link to it from there, otherwise no one will see it except you (and only when you use the computer it's stored on). Jan Erik Mydland HoF admin |
