Ok, I downloaded ADOM about a month ago and I'm hopelessly addicted (:P). One thing that has me stumped: Are druids even worth the effort? From what I've read, they get the skills that a Ranger gets at level 6 really slowly. (ex: immunity to weather, etc.) Are the animals they summon later any good? Whats a good race/month for them? Any advice?

Druids are good because all animals are neutral towards them, including cats, and they can cast spells while still being able to fight.

A good race is anything but troll or orc.

I love druids... you can use that nicely non-hostile anthill on PC:2 to create some very nice ore...

One other nice benefit is that they start neutral, no matter the race of the PC. So it's a nice way to get those Trolls, Orcs, and Dark Elven characters away from their chaotic tendencies a little earlier thean usual, unless of course you *LIKE* being chaotic :-)

I'm just thinking... Gnomes get Gemology, right? It makes gems appear while digging... Ants dig... Druids get non-hostile ants...
I'm gonna try that out to see how many gems I can get :D

Oh, cool idea :)

I'd say troll druids can probably sac huge piles of rocks at level 8 for an easy precrowning...

'Course, any non-druid PC with a wand of door creation and some keys can still take advantage of the ants; just wall yourself in with doors and read your spellbooks, or just sit there, while the ants dig.

I love wands of door creation :)

It works - I got about 20 gems out of 1/4 level (I play in 1024x768 resolution, so it's 1 normal level) with 17 in gemology. About 8 of them where pieces of glass, the rest were either usable or valuables. That didn't matter, that druid got killed by an acid vortex (did I mention? I HATE THOSE! ALL OF MY PROMISING CHARS DIE TO THOSE ****!... I'm just angry my lvl 21 potential winner run into one of those after a though fight, and it blew up taking 146 out of those 92 hp I had left.)

This is why we always, always use bolt spells and, if necessary, teleportation, to take care of vortices...

Okay, so my chars die to acid vortices, too.

Sure, especially with barbarians and beastfighters, right? ;)

You don't have to be a spellcaster to cast a bolt spell... having the appropriate wand is enough.
