I needed some exp. and decided the infinite cave was a good place to start. I started going further and futher down and it starting seeming like it was never gonna end. Finally I came across the place with all of the different colors. I thought this had to be the end but apparently it's not. I went to the end and saw another stairway downwards... wonderful. But i didn't go down because there had to be some kind of artifact on this level. I went through the level a little bit and then I saw a dwarven chaos knight. Ok, right? Well lets 'l'ook any way. Hey who would have thought, it's WaLaKaI, (or something like that) a special part of Chaos.
AHHHHH!!! One hit and i'm almost dead! so obviously I ran. So what artifact might he hold? Any help of how to fight him, what artifact he holds, how deep the infinite cave is, or anything??? Thanks.

The artifact is the Scepter of Chaos, which is required for any ultra endings. How to fight MaLaKaI? Uhh, well, I guess you don't have enough levels for him, as he always has been easy for me.
And ID is DEEP. It's DEEP x 10 + some very big number, like 100 x something huge, like Rosie O'Donnel's arse.

Actually, the sceptre is only required for the original chaos god ending. With ultra endings you'll end up wearing the TotRR, remember?:)

And how deep is the ID? Probably at least 65536 levels. I'd guess some power of 2, who knows. IIRC someone's been to about 2000-3000.

Oh, yes, of course. I just end up getting the sceptre every time I try ultra endings (I never remember to get a rare first kill, just always kill the first monster in SMC, so I end up hunting filk from ID levels 150-200).
And trying to get down to level 3000 is ID is very boring, you know. :)

To be exact, it goes doen to 9999 and then it starts using the letters A-F, and when you get to FFFF, then it goes back over to 1 again.

Has someone actually visited that deep??? SICK! The monsters and corruption get worse so it takes one bad muthafucka to descend that far...

Andor have you got proof of that, like have you been down to lvl 10000? Just that anywhere else in the game have I seen letters used as numers. If letters were used I'd guess they'd always come after nine, aka as hex.

To descend that deep it actually takes a lvl 50 necromancer who has closed the gate and who has toughness boosting equipment that take his toughness above 10. Or has that bug been fixed yet? If only BM were here...

After 9, it doesnt start with A. I've been down to at least level 10, and it doesnt say level A. I think Andor was right, it goes 9999 then AAAA, AAAB, ... FFFF.

J: You're meaning hex's (or how the hell it's typed), but evidently the ID doesn't go with hex. If it went first to 9999 and then to AAAA, it would be weird too. I really doubt that theory.

I was trying to reply to Andor's post and say exactly that. He was clearly stating that the game would count like that. Most certainly the game doesn't count in hex. And I really doubt it is something like pseudo-hex(after 9999 AAAA). Why would it go like that?

I have another theory. I know it's pretty revolutionary but try to bare with me. How about(as weird it might sound) after level 9999 came level...*drum roll* 10000? That's the way hit points and magic points work anyway...

10000 after 9999?
That's the most stupid theory I've seen since the-theory-that-says-2+2-is-4.

Ya, it probably just takes more room in the status bar (the last line) just like HP or PP when they go over 999. They 'push' other stuff to the right in the screen... blah blah blah.. VERY nonmeaningful topic of conversation. Who the fuck want's to go so deep in ID????

I haven't actually been that deep (almost, though) but i know somebody who has. I don't think the game would count like that, but it just goes weird after 9999

maybe if you deeply hex your character's save file, you can make it say that you're in level 9999...

and then find a down staircase... I wonder what's below 9999?

Hey you know filk and how he appears on whatever level # of 1st monsters you killed? What if you killed 10000 bats for first kill? Is it possible?

Well i decided to see how far i could go with a downloaded char. and i found many strange things.

I went down to level 66 and grabbed the scepter of chaos (or whatever that is) and continued on my way. On level 110 i saw a Great Black Wyrm with a name. I thought that maybe he held some srtifact or something. Grabbed his stuff and identified it, but no. I went down nine more levels and encountered a named White Great Wyrm. Ok now theres something going on because of the resemblance. I go down 10 more levels to 129 and find another named great blue wyrm. So does anyone have any idea? Im sure someones had to encounter this before. The gate has been closed.
So what is it and what sould i do? Any ideas?

when i played moria the lvls went - (always cheat) and you would see singing drunks (been 'bout 4yrs since i've played) and other town peoples. maybe adom is negative then A, AB (whatever) maybe thomas biskup is at lvl BISKUP or TB. or maybe you would see beggars, dwarves, farmers, goodwives.

I still think there's something more to this infinite cave. Can it really be infinite?

How far have you gone? Anyone. We're all here trying to guess at it but has anyone ever made it that far? I'm going there right now, but im only on 150. It gets kinda boring just going down and down.

IIRC BM has gone to 2000-something, and still no special thingy, apart from spellcasting Dark Orcs etc. - the "something more" seems to be the Scepter/MaLaKaI level

I dont think the infinite dungeon is infinite. I mean, if nobody ever got to the end, then they wouldnt know if there actually is an end. So why do they call if infinite if they dont know if it is? I think that the levels will end... Somewhere... Down there...

Why couldn't it be infinite? I don't think it would be that hard to code. I mean, the game only keeps track on how deep you are and generates monsters based on the danger level and everytime you go down it just creates a random level. Nothing special about that I think. Some weird thing might happen when you go so deep the game can't keep track(like below level 65536 or another power of 2) but I don't think there's a special 'bottom level' to it.

A) It would mess up the screen - ID:29167196491
B) It would mess up the monster power - what about level 193809147971648976197648712364981680619193891684963798161930631651872916789271389173891729873? That's the kind of place where you would need literally a million scrolls of peace in order to stop the only monsters being generated are GMs, kirins, and balors all at XP level 5 google

Well, if you were a necromancer with toughness above 10 from items... wouldn't you just repeatedly resurrect yourself whenever one of those uber-powerful monsters killed you? Or at least resurrect yourself once, then be able to teleport far enough away to take off and put back on your toughness-boosting equipment... then cast magic map and teleport to the down stairs...
