I can speak from personal experience. 2 years, 2000 miles. It can work if both parties care to make it work. |

From personal experience, they only work for a little while. Things start breaking apart, and you start meeting other people. It's easier to just end it when you can if your leaving. Unless you have ways to see each other. (: |

One hour is not long distance. Maybe if you both live in isolated places. Or are both retarded so that no one else decent wants you, it can work. I did it once. Didn't work. Amicable though, and not due to distance issues. Though, if you're a young'un. I'd give up. It *wont* work for adolescent relationships, I'll place money on that. So I guess I'm saying yes. It depends on the people and the positions you're in, but it can be done. Having said that, most of them will fail, but then most of them wouldn't actually be what I'd call "real" relationships anyway. [Edited 2 times, last edit on 8/4/2003 at 01:21 (GMT -5) by Lamaros] |

If you both have the Internet at home, you can talk via IM every day... that's what my friend did; and as I said, she's married now, though she is twenty and he is twenty-one, so they're not teens anymore. Die Gedanken sind Frei |

How old were they when they started? When I say young I'm thinking 17 and under. I would think that keeping a significant long-term relationship through such an age into adulthood would be really remarkable. |

They were nineteen and twenty. Both college students. (Yeah, it was kind of a whirlwind thing...) Die Gedanken sind Frei |

Yeah, I'm thinking you need to freedom to make it work. Or you need to be in situations where even though you have little freedom, the situation makes it worthwhile. (Ie: Stuck in Antartica, all alone with no one else to talk to). If you don't have the freedom to make it work, and have alot of other options around you, I doubt it will last unless you both think each other are -exceptionaly- special. Because there are many wonderful people all over the world, and geographgy and convienance will often dictate which one of those you end up with. |
