You're wearing an amulet of greed, right?

There's a royal vault somewhere on the level.

I've never met that particular message either. Only the "you hear the sound of falling coins". Are they the same thing?

Isn't the falling coins associated with shops? You get at least the message "You hear the steps of a royal guard" when wandering around a level with a royal vault. It's pretty much the same thing only that the amulet of greed informs you immediately when you descend a level.

If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

How do you get to the vault?

Move the cursor to the desired position and press [SPACE] when done.
Impossible. Suddenly you stand elsewhere.
You see an ancient altar of black obsidian.
The goblin rockthrower suddenly shouts a prayer to his gods! You are consumed by a roaring column of flame!

By digging. IIRC it's always inside the walls.

Yup, it's never connected to the normal parts of the dungeon level. If a river were to be generated on the same level then the river *might* flow through or just by the vault and you *might* be able to swim there but that's a pretty big if :)

The falling coins message (and one the concerns "the steps of the royal guard") also signify a royal vault. There's a shop message that also involves coins, I think, but not falling coins.

Oh yes, I was mistaken. It's the "you hear someone counting money" or something like that that's associated with shops.

Once I found a river going into a vault (eh I'm lucky sometimes), being greedy I usually go in run out (those guards don't become hostile unless you speak to them...I think)

I don't know what it is with that guardian: I'm completely lawful, right? And I go to him and he attacks me. I put on an invisibility cloak, go to him, chat to him, he attacks me (or tries to anyway, he 'seems to search for something or somebody'). I go to him, invisible or visible, pick up his gold, and he doesn't do anything. WTH???

He's blind you know... It doesn't matter to him if you are visible or not, he cant see you anyway.
And he's almost deaf, won't hear you if you don't talk to him.
You don't do nothing with him, just take the gold, and leave him be - he has a vault to guard, for a long dead king ;)

About the urges. After reading a certain scroll you recieve a message "you feel a sudden urge to scratch". What scroll is that?
"I want ye to slay a female goblin slavemaster ghul. Return to me when you have succeded."
