Use an instrument near an animal (doesnt work on humanoids, etc.) and after a few turns it will be friendly. Very helpful, especially in the bug cave.

Can (and will) take more turns if your music skill is bad, of course... At least I don't find it that useful untill it's (near-)maxed.

Ive never gotten the skill without a bard, and they usually start high. If you want to use music, be a bard (and get heir with it ;p)

You also get the skill if you play a Drakeling...
And of course Drakeling Bards get it at around 90 -100 right off...
Like was said earlier, it's not to much good until it's at least 85-90, otherwise you will sit and play while a beaties wollops you. Not what I would call the ideal practice scenario...

it's a shame you can't learn not-exactly-essential-but-fun skills except through potions. it would be nice if you could get skills like cooking or food preservation from some NPC. it would help getting the orb guardian corpses to the village druid guy. i put in some crap RFE about the road and i reckon a little road side inn or something with a kitchen where you could buy food and learn from the cook would rule

Not essential?! Food Preservation?! That skill is on the same level as healing, herbalism, literacy, athletics for melee or concentration for spellcasters.

i've always gooten by without it, and when i have had it it's been unused due to lack of corpses or needing to eat them straight away. maybe food preservation is slightly more important, but assassins, wizards and elementalists don't get it :`C and neither do elves (though i do play as humans and trolls sometimes)

I like food preservation with fighter types. More giant corpses equals more strength. Strength isn't too easy to raise otherwise. Hurthlings are great because they can cook the corpses and their gods love those.

Drakelings are one of my favourite races because they get food preservation and another very useful skill alertness.
