I have to do a report on australia for geography. You said in another thread that you were from australia (right?) well, i was mostly wondering about the 'slang' which no one else could find out. any help? Is it any different? I dont know if it is (and i dont think it will be) but it might be good if i want a good grade... (: |

Australian slang is quite different :) But i'm not exactly an authority on the subject I'm afraid. Plus it's something that varies greatly from place to place. |

Well, I don't mind helping, even though your report is in. It's a learning experience. You see, I'm a New Zealander. And we know what Australians sound like. See, they're always yelling at us, saying "We beat you in the World Cup!" and "You fuck sheep!" So, based on this abuse, and due to the fact I live in Australia(against my will) I have quite a library. Australians, due to the heat of their country(well, in the middle, mainly) can't think very fast. So, to help with confusion, all Australians are called Bruce. If you're in a place with two or more Australians, and you yell, "Bruce, ya want a beer, mate?" there'll be a clamour of response. Even if it is only two - Australians like their beer. An Australian quilt or thick blankety thing is called a "doona" (spelling?) This is more of an accent thing than about slang, but my god, Australians have strong accents. Their accents are so strong, they hear other accents even stronger. That's why they're convinced New Zealanders say "Fush". The reality is, they say "Feesh". (The example used here was "Fish", for the confused.) It's not uncommon to find Australians complaining about the surrounding dingos mauling their children. The phrase "Bloody heck, Bruce, the dingo's at the baby again!" is not uncommon in the Australian country. I know I haven't offended any Australians reading this - this is just our little back and forth insult thing, that has existed since Australians first lost to New Zealand in any sport, and will continue until they stop losing. It's gonna be a lot of fun in the future. (Seriously, if I offended anyone, sorry. I get a lot of crap, being a New Zealander in Australia, and it's good to let out your rage. <=) ) |

hehehe. It's been a while since someone has insulted me and I've laughed along instead of feeling sorry for them. Top work :) I'm not sure what kinda of voice I have. Compared to some Australians I would say my accent isn't really noticable. But I might be wrong. |

Nah, not Maori. My uncle-by-marriage is! But I can speak some small amount - the make you learn it at primary school. Also, at my old, formal, boys school, we had to sing( =( ) the anthem in Maori. And all ZZTers are hilarious, to each other. They scare the hell out of everyone else. |

I didn't know there could be so funny people on this forums. I've meat some australians but they were cool guys. One time I meat with a Christian New Zealender and he was like one of the coolest guys I ever saw. But it confused me because before were black like indians and people from Philipines. For the Horde!
