It is Halloween in the US, and I just happened to start a character with some decent Halloween luck. A drakish merchant, got the waterproof blanket and killed Kranach, started game with 0 PV, got +1 PV talents went to outlaw town and saw for halloween, a wand of monster! creation. How appropriate, but I really liked the seven league boots for under 3000 and the spellbook of teleportation for later. Lets see if I can keep this guy alive. BOO! |

well, I went into darkforge teleporting around, still cant find a good one handed weapon yet. Got some dragon scale armor, and got a wish from a pool! AoLS. This guy now has reason to live. Ive named him GoldenBoots. Gold for the color of the pool, and boots to commemorate the loss of my seven leaguers. I never name my characters until I get the AoLS or a wish. If they dont find one, they aren't worth it ;) |

well, Goldenboots is level 21 now. I just got crowned, and I received Boots of the diving messenger, which is para resistance, death resistance, control teleport, Dex + 5. Very nice since my seven league boots havnt been replaced yet. Ive also found a Spellbook shop, which is great! As a merchant, I can clean out all 30 books for 5 grand, and they will be back in seconds! ('w'alk 5) Going into the fire temple, and oh yes, I havnt killed a cat yes. I want that ring bad, and the only thing stopping me is the fire temple. Here I go...... |

well, fire temple is toast. It was easy as a drakeling with tons of spenseweeds. He was so fast with speed of 250 or something from the heat. It was damaging him, but he used plenty of spenses. Eternium two handed sword with that speed is a deadly combo. ALso just got water orb. And, this is sweet, got find weakness skill from blessed scroll of education. That is a wish worthy skill in my opinion. I think I will lead the banshee back to the animated forest for a few minutes, should be worth it. I hope I dont die... |

this guy could def make it all the way. Got two RoDS since last post, used one on dodge, saved the other. In the casino, I picked up Preserver, seven league boots, girdle of giant strength, crown of regeneration, to name a few. This guy is badass, about to go get ring of the master cat... |

got the ring of the cat, and thanks to two more potions of education in the casino, I know have athletics and archery. This merchant is pretty tough now. |

well, Goldenboots is still in business. He should kill Andy by the end of the day, if all goes well. I know I dont want to be too confident, but i am strong. Ive had 3 greater vaults generated (i felt truly excited), but two of them were undead so I left em alone. The other one got me Ironfist, something else. There was a wand shop generated on level 41. I am confident that I can squeeze a wand of wishing out of it. I will go there before my final descent, and before I finally remove my corruption. Again, merchants can afford to clear out shops for fractions of the regular price, and then they will be generated again within the minute. I have the time and the money, so why not? |

Ok. SO, I killed the Ancient Karmic Worms enemy, and then I killed him taboot! Took me a bit to level up to level 45 considering I killed that giant Blue wrom sssrsrsrsxxxs guy when I was level 32. But, I am now ready to chat with assassin and kill filk, emperor moloch, and get the trident. wish me luck! this could be my first merchant Avatar win.... |

ok, on dungeon level 50 now, PC is level 50. I have th Trident, and a few scrolls of Chaos Resistance. I got really scared when I saw a threatening room full of EMPEROR LICHES, but i burned those guys quick. It was still scary, with the chance of an instakill though. Now to carry out the endgame... |

I hope you also have the Medal and Crown of chaos in addition to the TotRR? ;) You beat a room full of emperor liches :O That's quite impressive I think. Be careful though, and hope you have a high speed(like 300) or a couple of wishes for speed when going against Andy. Also remember to look out for death ray, confusion and paralyzation (You've got those nice boots!), also have a light source. You probably knew all this already, though I'd just give you a checklist. I think you can get him with humanoid and demon slaying ammo, if you want to avoid melee and have the speed. Hope I didn't forget anything, good luck! done and done! My 13th Avatar win with 13 different classes. Andy was cake, never even hit me once. This was one of my luckiest games ever. I used the absorbing mana corruption along with the wand shop generated and the merchants ability to get stuff cheap to get my PP up huge, and then still have tons of wands just in case. Found another RoDS right before going thru the chaos gate, used it on speed. Dipped at least 8 or 9 batches of potions (procured from the two potions shops generated) into potions of exchanges, wound up with a heap of 9 quickling bloods. The luckiest may have been getting find weakness, athletics, archery and a few others from scrolls\potions of education. I also wished for dodge and concentration. Feels good, especially knowing my guy started with 0 PV. Oh yes, and I always back up my games, would hate to lose a char to 291... wasnt an issure this game however. Ill post him in the HoF if anyone cares. What a scary Halloween PC! Thanks for reading guys. the biz |

Good point you made throughout your story about shopping with merchants. Maybe they aren't such a pitiful class as I've thought they are. Migth try one some day. Merchants are weak at first, but become very fun later. They can carry tons of stuff, they find more shops, and I think that they get better items generated in shops as well. I think the pressure of posting his status here kept him alive in the game ;) |

BTW, did you find that merchant's had the shops generating new items faster than other classes? I got some sort of impression from your posts that it might be this way. Or is it just because of the fact that prices are cheap and you can always empty out the shop, after which the wares are renewed quicker? If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. I would say that it probably is the same rate. I play 1.1.1 on XP and I use the 'w'alk 5 thing alot, and it whizzes by in the game. Like 20 turns will take a fraction of a second if ive locked myself in a hallway next to a shop where no monsters can get me. I could actually get shops to regenerate in less than 5 seconds, although sometimes it would take up to 20ish. I also hit the enter key after waiting because it will clear through any messages you hear in the dungeon. |

This morning i've tried something like 10 gray elven merchants, all without success :D Well, once i managed to save the mad carpenter, but just after that i decided to fight a black wizard :D Got killed by ~5 ogres :D But i'll keep trying :D Klavert -I want ye to slay a rat to prove your valor- Thrundarr That really happened to me :D |
