It seems that dark elf monks constantly have bad luck. Upon entering the small cave, I've died more often than not, on my first one or two monsters. Tough to live up to level 10-12 "Not Zeus himself nor any other Power Shall save this madman who defies the Gods!".....Phoebus Apollo |

Low life, low hp regeneration, no shields or polearms to boost you DV... I've got just one Idea - either change your class, or change your race. Dark Elves are better as barbarians. My finest character was a dark elf beastfighter. Atlevel 33 or 34, I was at D:50, made level 43, killed all but about 5 or 6 monsters, had the named balor critical, and was turned into a chaos jelly thing. Went through about 20 SoCR,s. If only I had a couple more. After my death, I realized that I had a blessed RoDS. Might have won. Yes, they're propably the best race there is. The only thing they are not good at is fighting bare-handed and being bards (low Charisma means companions won't obey orders). Dark elves generally get the worst prices in shops when race is the deciding factor. They're pretty much the most disliked, and they get really lousy prices from dwarves and the "good" elves. Hurthlings are the best liked race and would thus get good prices from most races. Don't know how much all that really matters with a merchant, when they should get pretty good deals, but charismatic hurthlings (gnomes are also generally liked and have high charisma) really get the most out of the "special aspect" of merchants. They can also get that beautiful <body armour type depending on race> of carrying more easily, since they get that 1 extra talent at start. If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.
