Just as I first entered Lawenilothehl to kill my beggar as usual, i found that Long Sting was generated in the shop.
Also Bracers of Thoughness [To+6] and Mithril Tower Shield (+1, +1) [+3,+8] was generated.
I never seen artifacts generated in shops before and I played since gamma8 so this cant be to common.
Drinking a PoI gave this game a really lucky start I must say.
To bad Long Sting is 2handed :(

It's not SO rare. That much good items + 1 artifact is certainly good luck.

have u ever been in the casino shop? It almost always has like 1-3 artifacts in it, especially if your char has blessed/fate/luck with him. For that simple reason, it always an obsession for me to kill that shopkeeper. A challenge, so to say :D

Then I guess I has just been unlucky so far since this has never happened to me before.

Concerning the Casino shop, I usually dont find money a problem at that stage since the slot machines are kinda friendly..
So I usually pay for the items there :)

Yeah, no reason to kill the shopkeeper. You can just buy all you want from the shop, even wait for it to restock and buy stuff again if you want. Sometimes the big guard won't let you through after all this, but he can be teleported away without making the place hostile.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

True. But the shopkeeper gives something like 300,000,000,000 exp... it usually gives me the last three levels instantly.

300 billion? Yeah right :D That much experience would give female trollish barbarians say, 200 levels if it were possible.

According to my characters xp sheet, he needs 16 million to get to L50..

Me thinking you was exagerating.

You pick up the Blessed Amulet of Life Saving. Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, slowly turns toward you.

LOOng time a go, several years anyway, (it was 0.9. something.) when I was playing my first games (dwarven paladin), I found skullcrusher in barnabas' shop. took it, killed barnabas with it and went along to wreak havok. humanoid slaying is wonderful... it was all good 'till got cornered by chaos spawns. couldn't escape. it was a shame... but still artifacts generated in shops, save for the casino, are rare indeed.

and true enough, shopkeepers are worth a lot of exp. that time barnabas wasn't though. I think I'd remember...

And my point was...

As far as Barnabas' Black Market goes, I've had an artifact generated there on several occasions. Unfortunately, It almost always (approx. 80% of the time!) the Black Tome of Alsophocus (however you spell that). Maybe it's my version, since the same thing happens in the Water Dragon cave, except there the resident artifact seems to be Wyrmslayer. I've tested that by saving before going into the cave, and then entering and quitting to see what artifact, if any, was generated and about 8 out of 10 times it was Wyrmslayer! Just a not so interesting tidbit...

The black tome is almost (almost) always generated in shops, and not given as a crowning gift.

...sacrifice, feed to the ratling it or sell it. Not any actual *good* uses 'cos it corrupts when read. It gives also random spells that way.
