I don't think linking the avatar from off side would be a problem, well aside from the fact that everyone looking at the avatar would cause a "lurker" to pop up on the "online users" list here... Have to do someting about that one of these days I guess... Bandwith wise it shouldn't cause any problems. Currently I'm nowhere near the bandwith per month limit and the avatars are fairly small. I have though about making some kind of "new messages" indicator, but don't have any concrete plans. The URL to a thread is supposed to contain a new time stap whenever someting new is posted though so most browsers should list them with the "unvisited" color once a new message have been posted... If I can work out an easy way to implement it I'll do it though... Jan Erik Mydland HoF admin |

Oh, right you just use the same URL as it says if you look at "properties" or "copy immage location" or what not when right clickon on it: for you it's http://adom.brinkster.net/forum/display_avatar.asp?user=80 for me it's http://adom.brinkster.net/forum/display_avatar.asp?user=1 So basicaly adom.brinkster.net/forum/display_avatar.asp?user=<user_id> Jan Erik Mydland HoF admin |

Does that user id number mean that Duke's the 80th to register on these forums? If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. That would be my geuss... Hmm, I have a problem... says "Improper picture type." I geuss it doesn't like there not being a *.jpg or something at the end. ivan.sourceforge.net [Edited 1 time, last edit on 12/6/2003 at 23:38 (GMT -5) by Duke Ravage] |

Hmmm... If it only accept "raw" jpg or gif or whatever immages it probably won't work... You could try to add an extention as a "fake" parameter or someting at the end of the url. The script that retrieve the immage will just igore it and depending on how smart the script on the forums is you want to use (if it only look at the last portion of the URL directly following the last "." for example) it might be enough to "trick" it into thinking you link an immage... So someting like this might work: http://adom.brinkster.net/forum/display_avatar.asp?user=1&ext=.jpg (that's a link to mine, but you get the idea, doesn't realy matter what you call it &ext, or &foo, or &sdf or whatever, just used ext for clairity) If not you'll just have to download it and find somewhere else to store the actual immage file and link to it.
