Maybe a stupid question:
I have a medium shield [+3,+1] weighing 100 s. Now I found a small mithrill shield with the same suffix but of course lighter... are there any benefits of wearing it? I didn´t notice any one.

If the mithril shield has same stats, sure. Usually (but not always) mithril armor has lesser weight and better stats than the equivalent iron armor (and similarly adamantium is better than mithril and eternium better than adamantium). AFAIK mithril armor also is less likely to be damaged than iron.

Thank you. And another question:
Does the weapon/shield status (especially uncursed/blessed) affect its melee function?
(I am really somewhat lazy to look for it in manual.)

Against undead, yes. If the weapon is blessed, it damages udnead beings more, if cursed less. Can't remember the exact figures... go look the guide or wait for someone here to post them.

IIRC, the factors are 1.5 and 0.5, respectively.

As the man ridiculously impersonating me said, higher metal equipment are less likely to get damaged. That means all ways, be it monsters damaging them with critical blows, fire, acid, lightning, explosions, anything. So definately use a higher metal item instead of a lower one, if it doesn't have worse stats.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.
