This post is to ask for a bit of help with my current aspiring Paragon of Order, who has got further than I've ever managed before with this challenge. She is a Drakeling Bard who luckily was born with the Concentration skill, and she has cleared out Darkforge, the Rift, the ToEF and the Bug Temple, saved Khelavaster and told Blup about his mum. She is a crowned champion of order, and to the best of my knowledge, she has never committed a chaotic act.

However, she has not found a single wand of cold or spellbook of Frost Bolt, so she cannot freeze the water in the Tomb of the High Kings. Is there anything I can do about this problem other than scumming the ID for one? I imagine that raiding the water dragon's lair is a chaotic act, and I don't want to have her killed (it doesn't fit with making Blup happy). Perhaps I could lure her into the wilderness by having Hawkslayer attack her and then raid her lair?

Also, could Hawkslayer kill the Casino shopkeeper? (And given his lawful nature, would he?) My usual way of handling the Casino is to steal everything I want and run for it, but of course that's off limits to a paragon of order. Is gambling a chaotic act? If not, I could gamble until I can afford everything I want.

Gambling is not chaotic.

Hawkslayer can only kill the Casino shopkeeper (or survive to lure Blup's mom) if you train him up a little... I suggest the gambling; that way you can buy what you want, pile everything in a corner, and wait till it restocks.

If you didn't choose the village elder side of the two quests, you get a spellbook of Frost Bolt and a wand of cold from the druid. Also, don't eat undead corpses, which is a chaotic act.

Only if you choose power... if you choose 'knowledge', you get herbalism or gardening (if you don't have herbalism, or don't have it at a high level, or something).

this is interesting, I was just going to post about this. I TOO am going for the paragon. I am past the Casino and Cat Lord, and Im on the Elemental Air level with a Hurthling Paladin. I am crowned, and got the Law skill a while back, and to my knowledge, have never commited a chaotic act.

I also could not find a wand of cold. I actually had to drink from a pool to score a wish to wish for Nether Bolt. Drinking from pools isnt chaotic, i hope. I got no message by doing it from the law skill.

Good luck Ekaterin, and wish me luck to. I should find out by later today!

Good luck, the biz! No, I don't think drinking from pools affects your alignment. What did your paladin do about hostile blink dogs (killing them is chaotic)? I stick to bards for this challenge so that any hostile blink dog can be tamed.

well, since my hurthling paladin started off Lawful, blink dogs never attacked him. It was great. I even ate e blink dog corpse.

Now is that chaotic? Because i didnt get any freakin platinum girdle and im on level 50.

I ate no undead, dug no graves, killed no blink dogs, attacked no neutral monsters, picked no pockets.

Is it chaotic to kill a monter that doesnt care about you, or is it only chaotic when you kill a monster that prompts you with "really attack?"

IIRC, eating a blink dog corpse is not chaotic, but eating a moloch or ratling warlord corpse is.

Aaargh, I just remembered rumours that picking up an orb guardian corpse is chaotic - or is that only Keethrax's corpse? If it's all orb guardians, I've done something chaotic already.

Killed any dwarves, beggars, or kirin (I think that covers all non-unique lawful monsters)? Converted any altars towards lawful? Quaffed any potions of balance?

You didn't do Guth-Alak's quest, did you? I think that pulls you towards neutrality.

Were you crowned, and did you save Khelavaster? Some say that those are necessary for a paragon of order.

i was crowned and saved Kelly, but I did convert several altars to Lawful. Was this my mistake? I have to try again.

how is yours going?

I died - I transgressed some law then committed honourable suicide. Here are the details:

I gave Hawkslayer some armour and the secret password, then to see how powerful he was I had him attack the shopkeeper in the HMV. This proved a bit difficult for him, so I led him away and cast some healing spells at him. Then I thought I'd train him up on someone easier, so I set him on Gaab-Baay, but she was tougher than I thought and even used poison on him. As I was trying to take him away into the wilderness, she caught up with us and killed him with a blast of energy.

Since I had a scroll of familiar summoning, I blessed it and read it in the Dwarven Halls to try for another tough pet (for luring Blup's mum). I got a greater earth elemental, which was a nice tough pet. Then I made the mistake of training it by having it kill a few random Dwarftown people. At first nothing bad happened, but when it threw a rock at a dwarven guardian, the alarm gong was rung and I felt as if transgressing some law. To atone for that evil act, I went into the alleyway and magic missiled myself to death.

that hurts. SOunds like a busy character. I was intentionally being very minimalistic in my approach because the more I did, the more Chance of doing something chaotic.

I will get that girdle. Has it been done without cheating?

I think it has been gotten only a couple times, IIRC. Probably only once or twice in this version.

So you get the platinum girdle on level D:50, but only if you've never done something chaotic? I've never even heard of this. Is that the only way to get it?

eating a blinkdog is probally fine, its just killing one would be chaotic because they are lawful creatures.

well, I am damn sick of this quest, since nobody really even know what you have to do to get it. I just brought a high elven bard to level 50, and again, no platinum. I killed no blinks or dwarfs, touched no altar other than lawfuls, had the ring of the master cat, blah blah blah. I did nothing wrong, and received nothing. very wasteful.

I actually found an eternium two handed sword of devastation in the casino with that guy, but he didnt even go for the avatar because he was going for the platinum. oh well

Yes, according to a recent post to rec.games.roguelike.adom, the platinum girdle quest is buggy. Apparently no lawful may die, no matter what killed it. This seems like a bug, since there's nothing you can do to prevent a blink dog from hitting a trap.

>"had the ring of the master cat, "

Isn't the master cat quest neutral? Neutral quests should bring your alignement towards N=.

So if you were already Lawful or N+ by the time you chatted with cat lord, that should have brought your alignement towards neutrality ( =towards chaos).

I don't remember where I heard this, but I thought picking up or eating ANY corpse is a little bit of chaotic, even if you don't get the warning message provided by Law skill. Not sure though.

There are so many ways you can do a chaotic act without even noticing it, that trying to get the girdle just doesn't seem worthwile.

Isn't it, for example, chaotic that you trigger a fire ball trap and some peaceful monster dies on that ball. You may not even notice his/her death, if the monster is behind the door, for example.

Bolt&ball spells may also kill some peaceful creature who is out of sight or make it angry before you even see it.
