I am curious as to how many other people change the default size of the game. 50 line games are really tough, especially the small cave.
A friend and I favour the 50 line game, are there others out there?

How do you change it, and what does it do?

You need to right click on the adom.exe file and go into properties. Select screen and then change the initial size from default to 50 lines.
This changes the size of the display on the screen. It doesn't effect the wilderness map.. but makes all the dungeons about twice the size. I have once managed to reach the end of the game on this sized game, although, I think I was very lucky.. and I had to cheat alittle.

Try it, tell me what you think.

I think that is how i play it, the big room is REALLY BIG, and the casino is HUGE! i found 5 artifacts and a ring of the Djinn in that monster casino with my last character. (female human wizard, cup sign)

The option to change no. of lines is grayed out... what's causing that?

Hmmm.. I dunno.. I see if I can figure it out.

Majin. Yeah.. that's the way!! I once managed to kill all the gremlins in the dark cave in a 50 line game. I don't know why I bothered ( oh yeah, cos I'd got a new fancy weapon that I had no skill with ). I took advantage of the dispel trap spell. Phew. Never again.

It's harder to do on XP, W98 you just change the default lines on the shortcut. In XP start the game in a window. Right click the title bar and go properties. On layout tab change width and height to 80 and 50. I've got both buffer and window size set, dunno if you need both. Anyway, go ok and then say ya to keeping the setting next time you run the app. You may need to play with font sizes and stuff as well to make it look pretty, mine are set to 12 x 16. That should do it.

Ah! My good friend Mr K.W. Monk.

Never fear. I feel that you will see your t-shirt and more before this year has passed.

Thank you for answering that. I was pretending to think of how to fix it.. but I was really doing nothing. I had no intention of making any effort at all.

Win95 and 98 right click the short ADOM cut, select properties. Then go to the screen tab and set initial size to 50 lines.

For 2000 or XP see my post above.

Don't know how for any other OS.

Ahhh right - sorry took me so long to reply, I've been out.

The methods I described above are for the DOS version only and are for when running it under the various versions of windoze.

Morio's response also works if you start up a DOS command window and run ADoM from a command line.

I just recently switched to XP and I now have to play version ADOM 1.1.1.
That's so I get the best colour, 50 line game, full screen.

50 line games are great, they make so many things harder. It's great. Worth playing.

Don't know if it's impossible. We just don't know how to do it.

For those of you with access to a command prompt, try typing this:

mode con lines=50

That changes the number of lines in the DOS environment. Just change the number to 25 to return to the normal size. It may also reset when you close the DOS window, depending on your settings.

I use win98 and neither the shortcut or the original .exe have anywhere to change amount of lines at all.

I just change the resolution, 1024x768 makes the levels 4 times bigger. I have yet to try 1280x960, but the animated forest is the most annoying thing if you have big dungeons - even the Banshee can't help you with it, she affects only 1/3 of the level.

IMO winbeta version doesnt support 50 lines running.
On win 2000 the dos version of Adom also doesnt support it. There is no option like that...
Am I right?
