Just a point of curiosity...

Why do you suppose it is that in a dark room, I cannot read a scroll, however, in that same dark room, I can pick a scroll up and know what it's labeled? I should be able to read both the label and the scroll or neither.

Well, it makes sense that you can't read scrolls in the dark, so I think it should stay that way, but you're right that it doesn't make sense you can read scroll titles. But, to take care of this very minor problem, TB would have to put effort into getting all scrolls to show up as "scroll" and to label themselves when you enter into light. Also, while we're add it, lets have scroll labels show up like "squiggly-labeled scroll" for illiterate characters. It's not worth the effort, and that's why you can read scroll titles in the dark.

You can also see gem colors in the dark when picking them up.

Yes, it would be too much work for what is basically flavor, except for those spellcasters who regularly use Darkness.
