Yea, with what class/race, have you guys won, if any?
I just recently ALMOST finished the game with a drakish weaponsmith, he's still alive, the 'ALMOST' is because he hasn't actually left the chain yet... I wanna keep him alive and exp and get some leet stuph and all until I can get at least top 10 @ HoF :)
I've finished the game 3 times: High elven barbarian, Dwarven paladin (he died after closing the gate at bug temple... shame) and now, the drakish wpnsmith..

The easiest was prolly the high elven barbarian.. or then it just feels so because if those trendemous blows hit a balor at D:50 it really did MAJOR damage to them..

The paladin was quite an ownage because especially at the endgame he was great at melee and good at magic, so he could take nasty monsters from range with magic.. (and I mean ball spells)

The weaponsmith... well, it was half-randomed character, the race I selected manually, but the class was randomized.. can't believe I closed the gate with a weaponsmith... Actually it's quite good class, if you can find at least one forge other than dwarftown you can actually improve yer armors pretty nicely. a +6 +6 scalemail helped a lot in the early games.. improved it from -2 +4 :)

So, tell your tales.. sorry for the long post, I'm not sober at the moment. anyway.

*Edited: 'untill' to 'until..' there might be more errors with teh language but that's just because I'm drunk. (I know.. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to english: I wanna make it all diamond clear; no errors.. :E)

*Edited^2: again 'nice' to 'nicely..' damn I know you guys hate me because I gotta whine about every damn mistake somebody makes, even if it's myself.. :E

I have closed the gate with:

A drakish Monk (this was in the version where the drakling spit crashed the game, so i was VERY carefull in the quickling tree)[actually i had one level 32 drakling monk crash the game in there..damn]

A human Monk, who after winning was running along a corridor holding down on the Left key because he was poisoned, SPLAT, meow, goodbye RoTMC

Human & drakling barbarian, a human wizard, a human and drakling assassin and Once, only once with my favorite character - J'arl the Hurthling Thief

And i've lost the game with approximatly 20 billion other characters...

What do you Wish for?_

Hurthling bard with Heir Talent from start (i.e. 7LB), and then luckily obtained a wand of wish (5 charges) somewhere in the early game, wished for phase dagger(s), the monster for the first dwarven quest, ring(s) of ice, Concentration and Find Weakness.

Afterward the game was just a breeze, until Claire (the name of char) arrived D:50, the chaos servants were becoming too powerful (> 300 kills) and inflicting too many corrupting hits on him. Nearly wasted. But fortunately he reached lvl 50 in time. The stat rises allowed him to cast Acid Ball with greater range that KO those annoying chao wizards.

No more chao wizards = no more chao servants

So my first victory... (after 4 years of heavy-ADOMing)

Ive won with a gray elf wizard. After getting
spells going, there was no stopping him.
Oh and he found skullcrusher at Plevel 6 in UD...
helped with getting to mid levels.

I also won the game first time with
a human archer - but I reloaded one backuped
savegame (playing while drunk doesnt count right?)
- okay it does, but it was my first winnable char and I had to see....

Drakish Wizarad.. closed the gates, got the TotRR though nearly crushed by the Emperor Moloch. (1hp left)

She ended the chain not yet corrupted and was my first win!

Hey achilles, do monks get any penalties on heavy armor? even if they don't get burdened?

I believe that the only armor that monks may wear without penalty are robes, clothes, and elven chain mail...If I remember correctly, even the ancient mummy wrapping gives penalties...even though it weighs only 60s.

With even the heavy or ultra heavy prefix, robes and clothes and elven mail do not give a penalty...

I remember reading somewhere that the monks "style" of fighting depends on the ability to flow or to move, and any hinderance will disrupt his\her entire fighting technique, thus severe penalties to DV, and even to (if I remember correctly) to hit\to damage modifiers.

Unless its robes of resistance, or some outstanding clothes or elven mail, a monk should fight naked.

I have won the game with approx. 150 chars, but my favorite one was a trollish mindcrafter. It killed Andy on lvl39 and became Avatar of Balance.

I have about 40 victories.

Maany gray/dark elven and hurthling wizards, many gray elven archers, a few assassins (elves and hurthling), a gnome thief, a couple of paladinds and weaponsmiths, some dark/gray elf mindcrafters, 1 elf fighter and barbarian, a few elven necros, a few monks...

Most my characters have been elves, as you can see. I love them. And hurthlings are good, because of food preservation. I know that other races have that skill, too, but I think hurthlings are just cool.

Unfair to have so many victories, while I've to reach Casino with a legit char :\

Maybe it's my lack of devotion, I've recently discovered games with graphics (well, Ufo: Enemy Unknown has graffs, sort of :p)

IIRC one priest, one elementalist, several wizards (with one Archmage) and one beastfighter. Mostly the winners have been gnomes (gotta love them), but IIRC the first couple of victories (priest and elementalist) were gray elves.

My one and only winner is a Grey Elven Wizard. (#70-something in the HoF last time I checked). I once had another GE Wizard who was a potential winner, then I hit enter after giving a certain item to a certain NPC, and lost the bloody character. And another potential winner (a Gnomish Druid, random selection) who was about to give the certain item to the certain NPC, until a certain monster set off a fireball trap and killed the NPC >:{ >:{ >:{ >:{ >:{. I was so annoyed that I ended up berserking an Ancient Blue Dragon in DH2 at Level 21. Got killed by a Diamond Golem in the end. Wasn't sad to see him die, I didn't really like the character anyway.

My first victory was with a gnomish elementalist. Then I beat the game with a dwarven weaponsmith and after a while I made a dark elven archer an avatar of balance.

Then there was a long pause, until recently I managed to become an avatar of order with a dark elven priest.

Also, I've lost a (fallen warrior!) drakish wizard to a game crash after mana temple, a drakish wizard died against andy due to no paralyzation resistance, a mimic hivemind killed a grandmaster dwarven beastfighter and my own stupidity killed "certain" ultimate winner - a hurthling paladin somewhere deep in CoC.

Been playing a lot. :)

Hm... lemme think. Adom has always been on-again off-again for me, I'm not even playing it now, just reading the good ol' forums.

Okay, in this order: I closed the gate with a dwarven paladin, a dark elven wizard, a gnomish weaponsmith and a drakish monk. Then I turned a human archer into an avatar of order, and then an orcish priest into an avatar of balance.

I couldn't give you details of most games anymore. For the most part, if I get past the water temple I've got a winner.

The first of my two victories was also a gnomish elementalist, who closed the gate. The second one was a drakish monk, who became Avatar of Balance. Not very difficult race-class-combinations.

Beat the game with a hurthling priest. Priests and dark elves seem to work well for me...

Today i've got my first victory. I've closed the gate with my hurtling monk. He was my third character who got past eternium guardian, and 5th hurtling monk in a row, others were killed before pyramid.

Maybe i submit him to HoF. He will be somethere in the middle of the list - quite good for the first victory i think.

Now after 1.5 years of gaming I may rest for a while
