In an earlier thread, it was mentioned that maybe dark elves and orcs may recieve some sort of bonus fighting in the dark. Wouldn't it be cool if the dark elves had some of the inate abilities that seem to be available in some of the fantasy books? innate ability to summon a temporary globe of darkness... create a skill called "blind fighting" (available to all races)...perhaps learn from a NPC... be able to levitate for a brief period...(maybe not, because in the books, only nobles belonging to a house may do so) But this is just me. Hmm, it could be a race ability, similar to class abilities, where you press Ctrl-x. It could work just like the normal spell of darkness, but without any bonus's for amount of times cast. What do you Wish for?_ |

I think Dark Elves and Orcs only receive a LOS increase in 'darkish' areas like inside caverns. |

In my experience, Dark Elves don't get a decreased LOS when outside at night. Not including the Wilderness map, I think. This also solves that one fortune cookie about dark elves being better at night. |

Levitation would be cool--you could avoid some types of traps, and maybe temporarily add a point or two to some stat or other... Hey... how about race powers? Kinda like class powers, that come at certain levels... But, if you wanted to add a twist to it, you could make it a mostly good effect, with some bad added in: For example, a high-level orc could have a skill that increases combat effectiveness, while decreasing charisma a little; a high-level halfling might gain some stealth ability while becoming a little more chaotic... Sorry if that's a bad idea... it's 3:30 in the morning. Die Gedanken sind Frei [Edited 1 time, last edit on 3/20/2004 at 03:33 (GMT -5) by Iridia] |

Well, there already is the Drakeling race power. Maybe dark elves could just, simply, see in the dark. When you walk into a dark room, the floor would still be black but you'd be able to see all monsters and items. That's not too overpowered, is it? |
