Is it possible to apply smithing to them and if so, then what material are they made of?

There should be dragon scales in ADOM, i'll talk to Thomas about it.

Yeah, you could collect them from dragon corpses, but you would need a special skill to add them to a scale mail.

Maastonakki is correct, they're made of admantium.

If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

Everything's made of something. I just beat the game with a weaponsmith.

Si: adamatium
Elven chain: mithril
Bracers of War (shining silver): not silver, gold
Brass amulet: gold
Brass helmet: iron
Chaos orbs: eternium
RoDS: adamantium, so don't worry about melting them
Ankh: gold

While I'm deflecting the topic and resurrecting a dying post, what's with the weaponsmith level 50 ability? I know that it gives the melee properties of weapons, but it also gives the melee properties of missiles (rocks are usually (+0, 1d2)) and shields! (Eternium tower was 2d10 I think, eternium medium was 1d12) Even though they're impossible to attack with.

i don't know why you can't melt gold pieces into ingots to smith gold items. seems reasonable enough.

You are a weaponsmith, not goldsmith. Smithing gold is, I think, harder, since it's softer.
