Reading another thread today got me to go experimenting with gremlins, and I noticed one silly thing: while you're killing thousands of them, they of course get tougher and tougher all the time, but if you can handle them they suddenly start to become less able to owerwhelm you with their numbers. They start to get so experienced that they begin to evade the water traps more often than not, resulting in a diminished rate of multiplication. My char has killed some 4500 of them, and now they have to have a really big room, like a third of the game screen, with pretty much as many water traps as possible in order to not run out. A simple 8*6 room with six water traps(as much as you can fit that is) isn't enough, they don't multiply fast enough and start to run out.

damn typos...

Great discovery ... sounds like sci-fic which talks about some species which evolve too much and eventually kill themselves ^o^

Actualy, you might just be training your weapon skill. As the skill goes up, the cost to attack goes down. At level 15, it's almost 500. A little bit more.

Good point, but I do get messages saying "the gremlin barely evades the water trap", or whatever the message is for avoiding traps is.

I've noticed this to.
I tried to lure an extremly experianced gremlin across a trap a few weeks ago and after quite a while, it hadn't sat off a trap one sigle time.

As a sollution to this I tried to "drop the gremlin bomb", as someone called it, that is make them pop in the Underwater Cave.
But killed in that cave they never seem to leave any items, either before or after Whatshername Dragonmother is killed.

I tried that once, and didn't get them to drop items either. It's kinda wierd, as I remember someone posting that they did drop items and lots of them. What you can do even if they don't drop items, is pickpocket them, it's like picking up a random item each game turn.

There might be some hardcoded item limit per level, and the stash in the center of the water cave makes it impossible to generate more than a few extra items? Try killing them off after picking it all up?

Armada:
Maby if it's a limit for items on different area squares.
Cause I've had a lot more stuff in piles when scumming gremlins in the ID.

Then again, the casio is more stuffed than the Underwatercave, and still the monsters there drop items.

Strange this thing.
And aboute pickpocketing, only 1/10 or something seems to be "carrying varluables" so that's quite annoying too.

From GB:

"Traps occur in a known pattern. The order, left to right or top to bottom, is:

Light trap
Corruption trap
Stone block trap
Alarm
Arrow trap
Acid trap
Pit - this pit is distinct from the other in that it contains vipers
Spear trap
Teleportation trap
Water trap
Fireball trap
Pit - simple pit, no vipers

"

oh. I just thought that was a order they appear in. so If I have room 3x3 and trap in the nortwest corner is light, is next to the right or next to south corrupting?
