Hi, I was just wondering which class of weapons gives the best hit, damage and dv bonuses? |

Whips, +55 total Pole arms, +54 total Those are the best imo since staves + 2handers are 2handed :P My choice is spear because of the dv bonus. |

There are also guaranteed artifact polearms that are good weapons(rune trident, red rooster trident), so polearms are probably the best weapon type. A spear+shield combo gives the best DV you can get. Although a barbarian with Vanquisher or the Axe of the minotaur emperor can sure use that twohanded skill. Some of the best weapons are in the dagger category too(Sting+Needle, Serpent's touch). Whips are uncommon and the basic whips are crappy, so unless you wish for whips of slaughtering early in the game the skill is quite useless IMO. All in all, I tend to use polearms the most, but if I get a good weapon of another type I don't hesitate to switch. This often happens with precrownings. Themed characters are of course another matter. Assassins using daggers, dual-swords wielding dark elf ranger named Drizzt and the like... If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. Thanks a lot for the replies! I guess i'll be using polearms more now, I just assumed whips gave a better dv bonus...also, dual wielding whips doesnt seem to be too practical (im trying to think of the stance that would be used...seems akward to say the least :S) |

You probably don't want to dual-wield whips, the ADOM manual clearly staes tht is is a clumsy and awkward process unless you have a high speed or somthing like that. You need really high dex to dual wield whips efficiently. |

And even if you have 99 Dx, attacking with 2 whips costs 2500 energy instead of the normal 1500. But if you have 1 whip and 99 Dex... that's just plain sweet :D BTW - The Creator should add an artefact whip! Some flaming multi-headed whip like Durin's Bane the Balrog had. Or an energy scourage, like the "elves" in the Witchworld series had. Or any whip that doesn't corrode and burn! A pessimist sees a dark tunnel. An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel. A realist sees a train. And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks. [Edited 1 time, last edit on 7/21/2004 at 14:54 (GMT -5) by Maelstrom] |

There's always a Whip of the Snake, though that isn't artifact. Yeah, next version should have an artifact whip... hmm... ------- Black Whip "Snakebite" (+5, 4d4+10) {Dx+10}{Speed +10} ------- Weight: 50s When used in melee combat it grants a +5 bonus to hit and causes 4d4+10 points of damage. When used as a missile it grants a +0 bonus to hit and causes 1d4+2 points of damage. It modifies your dexterity attribute by +10. It modifies your speed by +10. It grants resistance to poison. It grants resistance to acid. It grants resistance to stunning. It is always poisoned. Using this item draws your alignment towards Chaos. It drains the life force of your opponents and transfers it to you. I was thinking of not adding an effect like the "of vampirism" weapon suffix, as that would make it more powerful than the average artifact; but it would really fit the idea of the weapon. And I need a better idea for the weapon's name... it's too close to "Whip of the Snake" and "Serpent's Bite." This should be a possible crowning gift for any Necromancer, or a dark elf of any class.
