Apparently weaponsmiths can melt down metallic items into ingots starting from certain level (6 IIRC). Apparently they get a number of ingots totalling the weight of the original item so melting down a moloch armor would result in 15000 s worth of eternium ingots, right ? Can they melt down other metallic items apart from weapons and armor, like rings, amulets, metallic ammunition and the like ? Is the pile of ingots resulting from melting down an item (or pile of items) of the same BUC-state as the original item, or could there be several piles of ingots of varying BUC-states ? Are weaponsmiths any good at spellcasting ? ISTR reading from RGRA that they are, but can anyone here second that ? Currently I'm busy with my Archmage-attempt but once I'm done with that (good way or bad) I could try a weaponsmith next. It would be funny having stuff like unerring ingots, ingots of devastation, trapped ingots or ingots of hate. Any advice on playing one, I haven't really tried out meleers apart from couple of barbarians and beastfighters ? J. Sytytä toiselle tuli ja hän pysyy lämpimänä jonkin aikaa. Hmm my weaponsmith did NOT get the amount of ingots of the weight of the items. I melted ~6 random eternium weapons and got 1 ingot. |

Yes, you can get ignots of devatation and such, but they don't grant anything to the items they are used to smith. Also, IIRC you can't smith items with suffixes and prefixes (only melt them). weaponsmiths get the concentration skill, so they're not bad spellcasters. What do you wish for? wands of cat repellent_ [Edited 1 time, last edit on 8/27/2004 at 12:37 (GMT -5) by Alex] |

From this site http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~houeland/adom/ "Smithing: max mods seem to be (+9,+9) [DV+3/DV+6,0/PV+4] chance to improve non-weapons above max: 1/(4DV) , 1/(4PV)" I'm not sure if DV/PV means the current value on the item or the value you're trying to get, but yeah, seems to take quite a lot of ignots when the item is good already, like adding PV to a moloch armour:P The negative DV is useful to increase, though. If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. Maelstrom: items with prefixes and/or suffixes CAN be improved with smithing, atleast the DV, not as sure about to-hit and dmg. and they make good spellcasters as they start with the concentrations skill as Alex mentioned. the greater moloch equips the hulking armor [Edited 1 time, last edit on 8/27/2004 at 09:37 (GMT -5) by eppztr] |

I've worked out that you get 1 ingot from about 150s of metal items. But if you have lots of small weighing items like arrows and stuff you need more, not sure how much though. |
