Do healers do something special with scalpels? I remember reading some clues that they do.

Nope, stethoscopes. A healer using a stethoscope does not consume game time, in contrast to all other classes.

I know that healers can use a stetoscope that way, but it was something about scalpels. I may misremember it though.

Hmm, in that case I've missed it. The guidebook doesn't mention scalpels at all actually, so you might have something there.

scalpels increace the chance for making the monster bleed, i THInk. But every class can do that

There have been some humorous suggestions about using scalpels to stop monsters from breeding on these forums, but that was only a joke.
