1. Does anyone know if surges of power are pre-determined at the beginning of a game (or level). eg. if i already cleared D:10 and I keep coming back to D:10 is there a chance that i will get a surge of power? (or is there some sort of "surge of power check" that is made only upon entering a level for the first time?). 2. I seem to remember getting a Surge of Power in the ID, are surges in the ID even possible? 3. The patch for ADOM allows all artifacts to be generated in vaults, surges, shops, pre/post/crowning...With this in mind (assuming that surges CAN occur in the ID or after entering a level) I propose the "Ydraeb challenge" - collect All artifacts. It would take a long time (grey elf with long-lived talent constantly scumming th ID, BDC, and CoC, in 7LB, until I go insane!) I think this would be challenging. Let me know what you think! |

1. I'm pretty sure you can only get a surge of power once on a level. 2. I doubt it. Not certain, I just really doubt it. 3. eh .. . would get really really dull towards the end. What do you wish for? wands of cat repellent_ |

how many artifacts are there? people normally get between 25-35 artifacts from what i've noticed reading winners posts. is it even possible to get all the arifacts? you couldn't get the platinum girdle and the chaos artifacts could you? other than the guaranteed artifacts, vaults are the only reasonable place to look for them i think. maybe if you became a proffessional stomafilla farmer you could manage it. for god's sake though, that'd be in the range of a million herbs or more probably, or billions of gold pieces. in all the adom games i've played i've only had 2 or 3 surges of power, talk about rare. blue dragon caves would get too tough, i dunno man sounds impossible. maybe constant restocking of the casino would give you a shot. |

Alex: I guess in question 1 Naiyor meant something like this: 1. Save game before entering D10 and back up the save 2. Load game, enter D10 and get the surge 3. Restore the backup and repeat from step 2 This way one would get that surge every time (s)he entered D10, probably with same guardian and artifact. rubbish. you would need to repeat thousands of times step 2 to achieve few surges. but if one appear, it is random, so you have even smaller chance to get the same guard/artif again. and about how many artifacts are in game, go and count by yourself :) http://www.andywlms.com/adom/adomgb-app-L.html |

Well, I didn't really mean any type of save-scumming, just re-entering a level, and I realize that it would be impossible to get all of the artifacts.(you would need to take the druid quest to get the torc...BUT you might not have to...I have recieved needle from a surge in the UD...this was well before I found out how to actually get needle!) so by this logic you should be able to get the platnium girdle, assuming that it is one of the random artifacts allowed by the patch. Can anyone verify a surge in the ID? -if in fact a surge is possible in the ID...the the quest would be reletively easy...actual real-life years of scumming the ID!! |

Perhaps you could get the platinum girdle the "normal" way (by being a Paragon of Order), NOT wear it, and then go for the chaos artifacts. |

It is possible to scum for surges, they aren't predetermined. Vaults are decided either when you first enter the dungeon or when you start the game, but there's a surge of power check every time you enter a level where one can happen. Just getting the platinum girdle would be hard enough, forget trying to generate every artifact. Last I've heard only two people have gotten it without cheating. |

Nayior, i assure you that the Platinum girdle is not availible from surges. And i really doubt that you have gotten Needle from a surge of power, atleast not in 1.1.1?? but i don't know, did you use any patch? I don't know how it works in the patch. the greater moloch equips the hulking armor |

To be as honest as possible: Who cares? Really, WHO THE HELL CARES? It's stupid to speculate things like this, as they don't affect gameplay in any way! Hi guys, I could have sworn I reveived Needle (I seem to remember wondering how to get sting...but, that was a long time ago and it could have been E.D. or cats claw) The version may have been buggy I think I was playing 9.9 gamma 15 or 14 or whatever. without a patch. And you are right I don't think that platinum girdle could be created through a surge...but, i dont know anything about this patch that expands on the possible random artifacts...that's all. |

I'm playing a game with a patch right now and so far I've recieved 2 artifacts that I'm certain was not possible to get other than through crowning earlier. I got the Rune-covered Long sword "Trusted One" as precrowning gift and got the Shirt of the Saints from a surge. Trusted One rocks as i am a wizard :D the greater moloch equips the hulking armor |
